Three ways I see this going:
1: A new potion which is an in-combat consumable, allowing the hero to escape from a combat and keep what's left of his troops. This is boring. And will suck. Probs.
2: Based on our knowledge of HOMM5, dark elves have an altgrade of invisibility/assassins. So altgrades for DE.
3: Teleport instantly to anywhere on the map. Without the portals.

Thing is, as with most things I write in my narrative story posts, these portinite orbs will have NO gameplay reflection. They are but an element of story, to link several events together, to explain something, and this time also to introduce something =)
