After, and to some extent before, the merge of .com and .ru, there arose a need for people who engaged in battle together, a way to communicate with each other even though their respective Native Language was divergent.
Thus I give to you the first guide for the English and the Russian Speaker. [my profoundest apologies to those of you who speak French, Italian, Spanish, German, Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, Urdu, Malay, etc. (and I am doubly sorrowful if I have not included your Native Tongue).]
Without further ado:
First: The beginning. 1st. Being the primary target/victor; excelling beyond any other; EXAMPLE: If you want to be first victor, direct your attack on the 'first' target.
Second: Immediately after the first. 2nd. "First, kill the poisoners. Then (second) kill the bandits./"
Third. 3rd. The victor after Second.
Fourth. 4th. The victor after Third.
Fifth. 5th. See above.
Sixth. ""
Seventh. ""
Eighth. ""
Nineth. Spellcheck and/or Translate likely won't recognize this word. Its use is likely exceptionally rare in this context.
Tenth. Victor after the previous nine. Unlikely to occur.
Based on these scant notes alone, I pray I shall never see '1rd' or '2th' or '3st'.
As a general rule 1 = -st , 2 = -nd, 3 = -rd

Maybe this has not been as helpful as I had initially envisioned. I should like to see a fully-functional compendium of English-to-Russian terms, and vice-versa, as well as other such communication aids. Truly, after the quantity of whiskey I have ingested tonite, a translation guide assisted by others would please me greatly.

How do you call "whiskey" in Russian? whiskey is grain based 'whisky' like spirits produced sometimes in Ireland and also to refer to some American bourbon type drinks.
If you mean proper whisky (grain, malt, blended, etc) then it will never have an 'e' in it's spelling. Only true whisky produced in Scotland is called 'whisky'. I would imagine most Russians would recognise the word without needing translation and would probably prefer the real thing. |

My point is that even some words in English which some people think mean one thing may in fact mean something totally different and many things also will not need translated as they will already be known.
The link in post #6 is very useful but full translating is very complex and depends so much on context and the parties involved that a thread covering everything needed would be close to impossible. |
