Hey, I've been trying to get into the group battle scene lately, but as I'm only an English speaker, I've been having alot of difficulty in them. Lack of ability to communicate or some anti-English speaker hatred I seem to get from time to time (fairly rare, but still a present issue), it has just made it quite difficult to get a good battle. I'm simply wondering what I can do about the problem, without joining some 50k gold application military clan (exaggeration, yes)... I'm just not hardcore enough into this game for that lol | Topic moved from "General game forum" to "Queries and help". | Thank you Wertz, that was my bad :D | Probably you can find a non-military English speaking clan, but I don't know if this clan exist | there are free MC out there, but they are all russian, and the atmosphere inside isn't that good either for foreigners.
The best suggestion i can give you is to make a choice between 3 options: a) if some friends of yours play the game, organize battles with them. You only need 2 people, since the foe can speak any language, and it's normal if they hate you ;);
b) keep playing solo, don't read the chat, and just hope things will go well. You can use coordinates to ask somebody to hit something, and although strategy could require a bit more than that, don't worry, because those people that hate you are so sure they know things better than you that they wouldn't listen to you anyway.
c) change game. I agree that a game is for fun, if you don't get fun and end with a bad feeling after every battle, perhaps it's time to move on... | 1. Keep playing; eventually you will find players you enjoy doing GB with. There were clans for this on the English server; I'd expect there are still some English speaking ones (usually, non MC ones will charge around 500 gold, not very "hardcore", though it doesn't work well at low level because players level up too fast).
2. If it's really important to you, then you can (almost) plan as much as with English speakers. I use 3 tabs for this: one on google translate, one on the Russian help (http://www.heroeswm.ru/help.php; categories are set in the same order than .com, and numbers are identical (adress bar)) that I usually use to copy/paste spell names and add creature amount when playing with casters. I also use a tab opened with an alt on .ru server to copy/paste faction names (again, same order as in .com), to tell if I want to kill the wizzard or the demon 1st.
Now for google translate, to be understood, you need to use easy commands (not "I would like you to defend" but "defend" or you'll end up with silly translations). Defend, wait, forward, or back, all those translate well and that's mostly all you would need; you might even just copy all those basic commands in a file for convenience. Of course, every one will also understand that 65 means attack the stack with 65 creatures.
Then, you can also type in non cyrilic, though I don't know how to get those; some Russians told me that privet is hi, spasibo a rough equivalent for gg, uskor for rapid,...
So now, you speak like a Russian, and players will reply in Russian; google translate will do most times though it's a very poor translation. Sometimes, you'll play with verbose Russian which is where it becomes tricky because google will translate non sense; then I just type a question mark and often I end up with a short order (65), or a rephrase that google will handle correctly.
With time you'll get to know a few words and it will get less a hassle; when I read something like Mar (wizzard), I know they're talking about me.
Hope it helps. | Then, you can also type in non cyrilic, though I don't know how to get those; some Russians told me that privet is hi, spasibo a rough equivalent for gg, uskor for rapid,...
Transliteration, or Romanization to be exact. | spasibo is Thank you | Poor humans need to communicate. | why do they call efk as 'dancers' ? :P | for Dbest:
They are called dancers in HoMM 5. I think that's why. |
