+1 attack means your troops do more damage
+1 defence means they take less damage

Yes, the attack and defense of your character/hero is added to your army's base stats in battle.
Also the creatures get additional stats depending on your faction level and guild levels and this is fixed. Check out the experience tables (section=10 on the link given by meshy) |
