As far as I know, there is no drink nor something else that could temporarily raise defense.
Yesterday I fought hunt battles, where my defense was 10.
Today I wore exactly the same artifacts (Sword of retribution + Fashionable bonnet = 11AP) to go to battles, but my defense was 9.
