Author | Regarding "No Ranged Penalty": Magis/Wardens, etc... |
I wondered about this SO MANY TIMES, so finally I open the Thread asking about it:
IIRC Archers do half the Damages both in Melee and Range, because they have both Melee and Range Penalty.
They actually do 50% of the Damage that appears when you press "Control + Click" in the unit.
Also, some stacks have "Double Penalty" or something like that, like Poisoners when Shooting (25% Outside, 50% Inside Range), but usually have "No Melee Penalty".
But... Why do some Archers have "No Ranged Penalty" AND a Range of 100?
They dont need the "No Ranged Penalty" if they have such Range, they have all the Battleground inside their Range for sure if they have 100-120.
And viceversa: They dont need to have 100-120 Range if they have "No Ranged Penalty".
It really makes no sense and it drived me crazy so many times thinking about it... xD
Can someone explain the "Logic"?
Ty in advance. | You're right, giving them 100 range and the no range penalty is redundant, but I don't think it would be sufficient to only put the range because people don't always look at that. However, people usually look at the creature abilities so it's good to put no range penalty there.
For the range section, they have to put something. They can't just leave it blank because if they do, players might think that it is a melee troop and can't shoot. That's why they put some high number like 100.
This is just a hypothesis of course, I have no idea if it's true. | Well it is actually simple. The 100 range is just for show, they actually have no ranged penalty, which means they have infinite range, now probably the way they designed the game they couldn't write "infinity" for the creature's range, and also leaving it black wouldn't make sense and might confuse some people. Thus admins simply give shooters with no ranged penalty a very high range, 100 or even 120(depending on the battlefield), that just means that they have no ranged penalty. Ranged troops without this ability can have at most 10 range I think. | I thing 11 range is max range for ranged penalty troops | for latviesu lords:
what about Everyone for oneself for 6 player combat? 11 range won't be enough there ^^ | Actually, all 'no range penalty' units have a range of 100 or more.
And there is a simple reason why you have both the ability and the range: coding uses the "range" value to define if the unit will do half or full damage. So, if they had "6 range" the "no range penalty" wouldn't apply.
and yes, of course, a value of 50 may have done the job too. But i guess devs preferred to take a wide turn so they are sure they'll never have to think & tinker with that again in future (imagine if one day they do a sort of tunnel event, where you have looonger battlefields...) | I was just curious what was the max distance in a 6 player eofo, turns out it is between 21 and 22, so 22 range would have been enough. I suppose 100 and 120 range is given just to be on the safe side. | True but as guyb pointed out, events might have bigger battlefields. Also, you can get much more distance than 21 on a TG field :p | In tg it's about 25.46, still much less than 100 :P |
