What is the difference between Basic Offense - 'deals extra 10% melee damage' vs Cold Blade -'Commanded troops deal extra 10% Water elemental attack upon physical attack'? | Cold blade is useful even for ranged damage. | So choosing between Advance Offense and Cold Blade, it would be an obvious choice to choose the latter? o_O | Water elemental damage can be reduced by Armor enchantments. | for Dwarkadish:
Yes | So choosing between Advance Offense and Cold Blade, it would be an obvious choice to choose the latter?
But you cannot choose Cold Blade without having the adv offense talent :P | It lets you have 10% extra on melee and range damage. If you took expert offense you would get 130 damage instead of 100 on a melee attack. But if you choose advanced defense and cold blade you would get 132 on melee. 20 from adv offense and 10% added to it. | Unless you are playing in and against enchanted weapons, choosing between Advance Offense and Cold Blade, it would be an obvious choice to choose the latter.

Also that^
However one more thing to consider is what happens when you have sword of cold. Comparing Adv. Offence + cold blade + SoC(10% water, max) against Expert Offence + SoC(10%), for every 100 dmg we get 144 dmg for the former and 143 for the latter, this proves that assuming there is no water resistance, cold blade is better than expert offence even when SoC % bonus is the highest. (Note: it is always less than or equal to offence talents, the equality occurs when you have a 10% SoC + basic off. + cold blade vs 10% SoC + Adv. off.)
Also, to summarize, given you are an elf and have range, it is unquestionably better to choose cold blade. | ^ Great explanation | Oh nice virtual_vitrea, I didn't know that. You probably mean "advanced ofense" in your third sentence/period. | In sume cold blade gives +10% for the final damage after defense 'roll.'
Offensive gives +10% for initial damage after defense 'roll.'
EG:
100 + 30% = 130 (Expert Offensive)
100 + 20% = 120 + 10% = 132 (Cold Blade + Advanced Offensive.)
That's it.
Just to add some extra redundancy... Cold Blade damage can be reduced by enchanted armors that gives protection against water, it doesn't boost damage against water immunity creatures, and if combinated with another water damage modification addition it will works as the usual formule of percentages of this game.
Generally speaking the talents unlocked on the specialized tree, tends to be better than the next level of mastery for that role, in most cases. Few exceptions are like "I don't want to master all 3 domanions for holy/darkness cuz too much spells" or rally, which isn't scaled proper imo, but pretty much anything else that I can thing of, is kinda better than the next level of mastery... Case by case must be looked into for more precise analysis. | Resistance against Cold blade (+10% water damage) is any kind of Magic Resistance: may come from arts (offering magic resistance or armours enchanted with water shield, talents, or creature abilities.
Resistance against "Offense" talents is any kind of protection against melee damage: the defense stat of the target creature, creature abilities, arts, or talents.
To show how one must choose in face of each enemy, let's take 2 examples:
1. A hunt against "Water elementals" or "Enchanted Gargoyles"
-Cold blade will add 0 damage unless you have some "pierce through" ability. So any "Offense" talent will be much more effective.
2. A hunt against "Unffetered cyclops"
-"Offense" will bring extra melee damage, which will be heavily softened by the creature's high defense (27). However, the +10% water damage will go clean through. So obviously, bring "Cold blade" to this one.
I hope this explanantion offers a further insight on the fact that "Offense" talents aren't better or worse than "Cold blade": it all comes downn to each specific situation. |
