It is the attack that steals it, so attack first, then they are blessed.
However, I think that if they steal stoneskin, then it is effective for the retaliation. I have not recently been playing as dwarf so this is based on slightly old memories so someone else may wish to confirm or deny. |

Clearly that should be the case, because as you said the attack is what steals it. So any retaliation that comes after the attack should overcome the stolen defense.

Must be nearly impossible to confirm because you would be strictly looking for an enemy with stoneskin and fixed damage parameter (either naturally or with 100% curse) to deliver the retaliation strike on the guy who steals it. Also you would need to calculate the damage it dealt to you when you had no stoneskin and compare it with the retaliation damage, of course adjusting for the stack size that was reduced due to your attack. |

@ stack of gremlins(10 and 25) make undermine at the exactly same spot in sequence 10 and then 25.
