Author | How to analyse battles? |
I'm looking for tips on things to look out for while reviewing some PvP battles in order to learn. | 1 Look at the profiles of all players. If it's a teamfight it is more complex so let's stick to 1v1s for now. Analyze the matchup and think of the win condition for both players. Look at the artifacts, guilds, levels, talents etc.
2 Plan ahead at troop setup. Think of the matchup, take into consideration the guilds & levels differences. Does it change the game plan? Consider your troop placement, how does your army win vs theirs?
3 Win condition, 1 and 2 tie into this. You need to have a game plan in mind at all times. It might be simple at times for example you're a mage and just want to stall until you wipe your opponent. But it might also be a win condition of a specific matchup. Keep in mind sometimes the win condition can change.
4 Execution - what steps can you take in order to make you more likely to hit your win condition? You can think of this as the macro management. Should you charge in with your cavaliers into the stack of grim riders? Why or why not? Think of this as the strategy you need to take in order to reach your goal
5. Mechanics? - proper placement and attack orders are important. Think of this as the micro management. Did you walk the full distance with forest Brethren? Did you make sure to walk x tiles away to not take full dmg from a shooter?
6 Reviewing specifics - Think of what you would have done in someone's place and analyze the results. This is why reviewing good and bad games is a good idea. If you see something that you think is a misplay then try explaining why. If it's a good play then again why was it good? Was it good in hindsight? What if he didn't hit the Luck on that attack? Which play was better in the long run?
There are a few more things I have in mind but would probably make this post too long and not add as much as the points above. Some are a little vague but maybe an example is easier to work with.
Example:
Take might DE vs charmer elf with balanced stats or guilds at lvl 8
In theory the DE should win more often than not. How does that work out? The shrews will most likely deal massive damage and the DE will get a big lead much faster than the elf can dish out damage. Outlasting the DE is very hard in this case, this is the win condition of both players. DE wants to end it quick BUT be careful because if you mess up by being too cocky you might throw the game, the elf needs to get rid of the shrews as they are the main problem, a different troop setup will help. Check if the opponent has the "tactics" talent.
How do you go from there to win? The execution is the main issue here, the matchup makes it so the elf has limited options. You'll need to get some good hits onto the shrews and making your sharpshooters lasting longer. Maybe you get lucky with the knocking shot, that'll surely help. Remember that in bad matchups and bad situations you need to make risky plays to come back. You can't play it safe and expect a win. If you're behind go allin on that chance of hitting with Luck. You lose anyway what's to lose right?
Blocking the shrews can be considered the "mechanics" part. You don't want to drop one FB infront of your archers because the DE can just attack it with their hero. What if you just drop single druids at a critical time? Shrews outrange you hard so one tactic is to use blocking to your advantage and in a way buy one turn which helps your goal of outlasting them.
I hope this post was helpful at all, it's late here so there's probably some gibberish since I didn't proofread any of it. Feel free to ask for any clarification on anything | Wow, different question as the usual people of your level would ask.
Imo, "Analysis" a battle takes some in depth overall "knowledge" of the game, and paying attention at a lot of stuff.
For example, I go to "http://lgnd.ru/gt/battle" often in my free time, while waiting for cool down of MG, etc, and I watch replays of battles of my class, or any class I like watching.
First thing you'd do when watching a replay is Stop the battle, and see every hero's talents and recruitment.
Recruitment is normally the same per class, except for Elf, BW ... It is true that every class can have more than 1 "Build".
Like, Elf can pick EFK at the cost of max Anchors, of even Sprites lol (Sprite weird in PvP tho, I admit)
Things like heroes with Barrier talent would catch your attention (Not a "common" thing, but I personally love that talent and find it secretly "Op"), or you'd see Shadow barbs with full def talents, and no Dark.
Talents say a lot about the build, and sometimes about the player's ways (Dwarf or Charmer with Soldier luck, for instance - you can guess a lot with that Imo).
After recruitment n talents, all that is left are "tactics/teamwork/ strategy".
Analyse every movement, and when you see something "weird", ask yourself " why".
" why would he move that there??", "why would he hit this, and not that??"
Sometimes players make mistakes tho, it's true, and fail blatantly, and the enemy team would outplay them then.
Some ppl would find watching somebody else's fight boring, but watching and in depth analysis is fun sometimes.
Anyway, at CL 7 (Is this your first acc btw?) It might be tuff, but at CL 14 I still rewatch some of my battles and say " wtf? Why did I do that back then? I'm a noob XD", so take it slowly.
Btw Random comment: nice stack of gold for early TGI)) | for Flying_Penguin:

This is better than any response I expected. Thank you very much! | Analyse every movement, and when you see something "weird", ask yourself " why".
When watching other peoples battles, i think this is the most improtant point if you want to learn from them. Often something that looks weird at first makes sense when you think further ahead. F.ex. maybe someone just moves a unit on an emtpy spot instead of giving a decent hit, but saves another, more important unit from something like dominion of fire + hit from big stack later on. |
