| Some people will travel with extremely low troop counts. In the event they are ambushed, the battle is over quickly and no one has wasted time. You cannot travel with no troops and expect to not be ambushed because you will be given bowmen and swordsmen if I am not mistaken. Most will travel with 1 troop |

I'll tell you though it is more "Rare" to see this now, since Auto from beginning exists, so traveller can just Auto.
Still, it is true having 1 Farmer is faster.
