Author | Guide or tips to play as red Demon? |
Heyo
I was curious as to whether somebody knew a page where they explain Demon tactics. Like in HWM Daily there's a small guide for UN, something like that.
Or maybe that person can just give me tips him/herself! !
I consider demon to be a class that requires more 'skill' than some other factions.
not saying "DE is for unskilled people", but many things of demon I don't understand.
... like why they Gate near their real army in CG, and not behind the enemy lines for surprise.
I mean, the obvious answer is "because the enemy would just kill Gated as soon as they show up", but idk.
Also, in tg ambush, you'd wanna gate for reinforcements (since demon army is tiny without gates), or just rush to shut the enemy down? ?
Note that if you gate in ambush, you give the enemy a free turn to kill first, like "kill me plz :D" lol.
Anyway, I'd thank any tip, I'm considering buying the castle.
Thx. | I consider demon to be a class that requires more 'skill' than some other factions.
You're right

You're right again! In PvP, it's usually a bad idea to gate directly in front of/next to your opponent (an exception is for tiny stacks of spawns or something to block shooters). If you gate closer to your army, you can position the gates such that the gated troops can hit the opponent, but the opponent would have to come forward a lot to hit your gated troops. This forces the opponent to move forward (and potentially in range of all your troops) instead of killing gated creatures from far away. Then your low speed troops such as spawns won't be able to reach.
Not really sure about TG, it depends a lot on the situation. | Yeah, once you reach a decent skill level in demon, your gated troops become very important and are not to be wasted by blocking shooters or stuff like that. In PVE gated troops tend to be ignored as long as you don't block shooters or if it's not the only thing in range. So normally you lose some of your real troops fast (like cerberi), while the gated ones can do a lot of damage and survive. At the end you might just have your gated army left and your cave demons. So yeah, you need skill and experience to survive ;-).
I don't have much pvp experience, so I can't help you much there, but I assume that experienced players know the danger of a gated army and will not ignore them.
For thieving there are basicly two types of setup: for a slow enemy and for a fast enemy. For a slow enemy you can use a rush tactic, where you split your cerberi, put them on two sides, horses and devils on the other sides and spawns together with one of the cerberi stacks. Horses are very fast, so even after gating you'll probably attack first. Don't gate cerberi and attack with them. I normally gate the spawns, unless there is a juicy target I can hit. With this setup you will lose cerberi and spawns fast, but you killed a lot of targets already, so it should be ok.
If it's a fast enemy (de, elf) you better hide everything in corners out of reach and gate all stacks. Then let them come to you, or attack if there are a lot of shooters.
There is dynamic balancing in thieving, so it's not a problem if you use the wrong tactic and screw up. As demon you can normally do enough damage to get more than 0,30 fsp in a loss, even in min ap (of course with low skill you'll need more ap).
Demon is a lof of fun and you can always change to dark demon for difficult battles (like WG). | Also you have to understand how gating works and calculate how many troops you'll get (after getting some experience you will know what the ranges of gated troops are you'll get). The formula for number of troops is 20%+4%*[Demon skill level], but you have to see this as a probability formula. If you have no demon skill, you have 20% chance to gate a troop for every troop you have in the stack you try to gate. So if it's a stack of 1 troop, you have 1 chance in 5 to gate a troop. If it's 20, you'll gate 4 troops. If 21, you gate 4 troops and 1 chance in 5 to gate a 5th.
This also means that from fl 8 onwards (52% chance and more), you will always gate 1 troop from a stack of 2 (and then 4% chance for a second). You have to keep this in mind if you want a gate to succeed, best is to split of 2 spawns as retaltakers, so you surely gate 1 spawn extra (or 5 if you have no skill). | it varies from different situations. sometimes you have to gate at your own ground, sometimes at enemies face, even sometimes rush immediately without gating. it can never been concluded in one or two words. | Exactly what RR says, also you need some defence as red demon. Full offensive is hard to stay alive with, especially without the max faction level for your combat level. | In TG, full offensive is fine: all stacks land 1st turn hits; and battles end a lot faster than when staying back and gating. | I suppose classic Demon is better than DD when it comes to Ambushing, most of the times, right?
Like DD's Fiends and Temptress wont even get to play. | Nice tips overall btw, good insight. | DD is also good for thieving, but you have to hide all your troops out of range as far as that's possible. If there is a shooter army, temptresses might not get a turn indeed. Otherwise you have to use them smart, seduce something that has a turn immediately, so you can use it to take retal, or break their formation. Don't try to seduce "the perfect unit", since your temptresses will probably die before that unit has its turn. Small stacks of T7 units are ideal.
Once you start casting you can weaken the enemy a lot and then finish it off with fiends. It's a lot slower than red demon ofc and you might not be able to win against some fast caravans, but you don't depend as much on your faction level as you do with red demon, so in the beginning it might be best to ambush as dark demon. Unless you will use a skill potion ofc. | dark demon is far better for ambush compare with red if you play smart, unless if using an enchanted weapon. | dark demon is far better for ambush
I totally agree, and adds some more strategy to it, so more fun that way if that's your thing.
But it takes twice as much to rack up, let's say, 4 wins, than with "full attack and ini" red demon. | takes twice as much time | I don't know why anyone did not point this till now:

| Because there arent enough people in .Com to keep the Threads of "Demon/Necro/Etc Strategy" alive in GGF I guess! | for Wonderla:
why should we keep a rule which is designed against flood when our environment is dying for dry? | @Wonderla
That rule was put in place at a time when there's was a topic in GGF for each faction. Since those are gone, we consider Q&H to be a good place for players to come for assistance. |
