Author | how to recover password, if cant remember email, used for registration |
hello,
i've been asked by my clan mate to write this post. his nick is Cypsit,
https://www.lordswm.com/pl_info.php?id=3903850
so he reinstalled Windows, and forgot to write down his password. an email, he used for registration, he forgot too, so he cant use recovery password option.
is there any other way to recover that password for him? for example, administration could write me his email, that he used for registration :) i would give it to him then and, if that mailbox still alive, he would recover his account.
or maybe administration can determine owner by his IP? he says that most of the time he log in from the same IP for years now. with some rare exeptions, cos he have friends and mobile phone :)
anyway, is there a way to help him?
thanks for your answers! | Well i have got my forgotten email too many years before
I think u can get the email mostly (not sure bout now) | The hard problem is how to prove ownership of the email account. If this can be done, then yes, admins may change the email address to one your friend can access, and password may be reset.
So in case proof of registered email can me presented, contact the Appeal Comittee on your friend's behalf: http://prntscr.com/ip8eek | From his personal info: I and my sister ncr playing from the same ip , but we know the rules
Maybe ncr could testify too: if they usually share the same IP, could be a good argument. | short answer is no, you can't ask administration to give you private information about an account - albeit, your own - as this would open the door to abuses.
Since your friend created the password, at some point, he may try to use all those he remembers and see if he finds the one. At best of my knowledge there is no limit to the tries, only at some point you need to add captcha.
if your friend manages to remember the e-mail address he used, as long as the provider still exists he can recreate the same e-mail or reactivate it, and he will then be able to receive the password recovery options.
If he reinstalled Windows without deleting the old version (like a fresh install on a pc where he kept his documents & such) he could look at the "Windows.old" directory and see if he finds the data from previous browser.
There he may find old Junk indicating where he made his e-mail, or try to copy/paste stuff from the old to the new install (which may actually mess up a lot), i don't know where his browser encrypted his passwords, but a web search may provide the answer. If those files still exists, maybe he can use them.
If neither of these options are viable, i'm afraid he may have lost his account for good. | thanks for your answers, ill share those with him, and i hope some of it will work :) | Well I asked arctic as much as I remember |
