This story revolves around a character named Gopal and his struggle for his dreams.Various stages of Gopal’s life have been depicted in the story to make a clear image about his efforts.
Gopal lived with his small family in a big house. His father, Dr. Ramprakash Desai worked in a famous hospital of Mumbai. His mother, Mrs. Nikita Desai worked in an IT company as a senior software developer. They were three siblings, Rahul being the eldest, Neha being the middle one and Gopal was the youngest. Rahul wanted to become an engineer like his mother and Neha wanted to become an biomedical engineer to create new health technologies and save more lives. Rahul and Neha only had an age gap of 1 year but Gopal was 7 years younger than Rahul. Gopal was never sure about what he can do or rather what he should be doing.
Rahul excelled in studies along with his decent social skills. Neha was an average student but excelled in cooking which was her favorite hobby along with dancing and horse riding. Gopal was not so good with studies but he was very good with applying what he knew in practical problems. We can call Gopal a creative personality. Both his father and mother were very supportive to all of their children regarding their studies. They never scolded Gopal for his low marks. They always encouraged him to work harder and asked him if he had any kind of problem.
Rahul however, was quite strict regarding Gopal’s studies and would always shout on him to work harder and spend less time watching movies on television. Gopal had only one hobby, watching all types of TV shows and movies. Some people would not even call it a hobby. Neha was friendlier with Gopal and would generally hop in with Gopal to watch movies. But Neha had a way to convince Gopal in some time to stop watching movies and go study a little bit.
Gopal had two friends, Rohan and Anubhav. All three of them were together since childhood as they were neighbors. All of them studied together in the same class. Rohan was very intelligent and so was Anubhav. Gopal always had all the help he needed in studies from both of them. Rohan and Anubhav were good in studies but that didn’t mean they didn’t enjoy or hang out together. All three of them would often go to the movies together or sometimes on camping. | As years passed by, Gopal’s father was running his own hospital and had several other doctors working under him. Gopal’s mother with some of her co-workers started creating their own applications. Rahul was working under her father in his hospital. Neha was working in the research team of pharmaceutical company to develop new health technology. Rohan, Anubhav and Gopal were preparing for entrance exams for their higher education.
When the group of three friends would study together, Gopal would often stand up in between and start mimicking various actors and made the rest of them guess. Sometimes Rahul would enter the room and would scold Gopal for not studying and even disturbing his friends. As exams came near Gopal was denied to watch any movies or tv shows. This made him feel very bad and a constant smile that stayed on Gopal’s face every day was lost. All of Gopal’s family was an inspiration for him and he wanted to become something like all of them did as well. He thought that studying hard is what will make all of them happy.
So he studied day and night without any breaks to his extreme limit.
But his natural spirit was lost, something that kept him going and cheered up. The exam started and Gopal was very nervous thinking about the paper and the result. During the exam, all that wandered in his mind were movie dialogues. He tried to concentrate and attempt all of the questions properly. The examination ended and as soon as Gopal reached home the first thing he did without even drinking water was turn on the television. The smile came back to Gopal and he forgot all his worries related to the examination and the results.
One day, when Gopal was returning home after having lunch with his friends he saw an girl playing badminton in her lawn. The girl was asking to throw back the shuttle that flew out of her house wall. Gopal immediately picked up the shuttle and threw it back in the house with a little smile to the girl. And a smile came back from her. After a few days, around the same time Gopal was returning home from the market and saw the same girl playing and coincidentally the shuttle was out again. This time Gopal threw the shuttle with a wide smile and a wide smile came back from the girl. From that day Gopal always went through the same road everyday at the same time. And the girl would throw the shuttle purposefully with a smile.
At the same time one day, Gopal was going from the way but this time the girl was standing outside her house waiting for Gopal to come. Both of them smiled as they saw each other. She introduced herself as Radhika. She had only recently shifted there because of her mother’s transfer. Her mother worked in a bank as chief manager. Her father passed away in a car accident 10 years ago. Gopal felt bad after hearing this.
Gopal introduced Radhika to his friends, Rohan and Anubhav. One day when the four of them were hanging out, Gopal starting mimicking some actors and then Anubhav said, “Here he goes again” followed by a little laughter from Rohan. Radhika was wondering what is going on. Then he started saying some romantic dialogues and acting out, enjoying as he always did. That day Radhika noticed that no one else did in all of Gopal’s life. When Gopal acted his face had a different glow and he eyes would burst out of joy. His expressions were so real and touching that Radhika started to have feelings for Gopal. Whenever Gopal asked Radhika about her dreams and her ambition she always said, ” You will find out when the time is right “. Gopal and Radhika would often call themselves “Stupid Amigos”.
Slowly, Radhika and Gopal became so good friends that both the family knew each other properly and it was no surprise when any of them visits either house. The results of the examination that Gopal and his friends gave were here. Both Anubhav and Rohan cleared the examination with average marks but Gopal was not even close to the cut-off. Gopal was very depressed as he thought that he fai | Gopal was very depressed as he thought that he failed his family and all of their expectations.
Radhika noticed this tension on Gopal’s face and asked him that why is he even studying all of this when he is not interested in it. Gopal replied, “It’s not true, I am interested to become someone like my family”. Radhika said “Stop lying now Gopal! I know that you like acting more than anything else but the thing that confuses me is why have you not talked about it to your family “. Gopal replied that they will not approve and it would embarrass them if he would not become like them. Radhika was very angry with this and said Gopal that she won’t talk to him until he doesn’t confront his family.
After a few days he decided to talk about his interest in acting to his family. Gopal explained how everything he has done and felt in his life related to studies to his father. Tears rolled down in his father’s eyes. He was happy that his son has thought so much about his family but sad at the same time that he couldn’t talk about what he wanted to do in life to them. All of the family was called together and told about how Gopal hid his talent from everyone. He received unexpected love and support for his behavior. Rahul was feeling bad for all the time he forced his brother to study when he was interested in something completely different.
Gopal joined acting school and gave all his efforts to develop his acting skills. But one thing missing from Gopal’s life was Radhika. He could not find her after their fight. He visited her home but the watchman told her that the family has already left because Radhika’s mother had been transferred to another branch.
Gopal finished his acting school and was ready to work for his dream job.
Gopal was offered a film from a director named Rakesh Kapoor and was very touched after hearing the story. After hearing the story, Gopal said, “What is the name for this film ?”. The director replied, “Stupid Amigos”. Gopal was shocked and felt so alive at the same time. He immediately asked who is the writer and the reply was as expected, “Radhika Goswami”. Gopal now understood the meaning of Radhika’s ” You will find out when the time is right “. Gopal immediately asked the director for her address.
Radhika was having snacks and reading a magazine when the doorbell rang. She went to open the door and saw in front him a man on his knee with a ring in his hand and he was saying, “Radhika Goswami, will you become my stupid amigo forever”. | Wow awesome ;)
