Author | Economics of the Skill potion |
I have very rarely used the skill potion for reasons of perceived saving of gold, though after using it for the event recently, and realising now that I am CL18 I get FL12 from it, I decided to evaluate my assumed position of using it was more exxpensive, as I think not using it could be a false economy in a number of situations.
So I am going to evaluate this from the perspective of watchers guild, since these are done in full arts, whereas most other PVE battles outside of events I do in min arts, and therefore skill potion can only offer a saving if it prevents losses.
I am now getting back into the habit of doing WG every day, with the intention of getting WG7 in about two thirds of a years time and also a good source of sustainable battles with a good FSP:ESp ratio for boosting FL of my anti factions. This means I am doing 28 battles in full gear a week minimum.
So lets look at some basic stats of what we get with PoS as per http://daily.heroeswm.ru/newscom.php?i=skills_wg_ag_en
Cl10-11 = FL8
CL12-14 = FL9
CL15-16= FL10
CL17 = FL11
CL18-21 = FL12
Lets compare this to the stat boosts
FL8 +2 Attk + 1% ini
FL9 +2 Attk + 2 Def + 1% ini
FL10 +2 Attk + 2 Def + 2% ini
FL11 +2 Attk + 3 Def + 2% ini
FL12 +3 Attk + 2 Def + 2% ini
As you can see the bonuses are more significant the higher you are, so in all liklihood this benefit will be more palpable (or only exist) if you are a higher CL.
For me I am DE FL9, but would go to FL12 with the potion, thus gaining in total
+7 Attk, +7 Def and +6%ini.
If doing the minimum of 28 WG battles that week, this would be at a cost of 429 gold per battle.
Lets equate this to a benefit of arts.
To compensate I could drop from a Sword of cold at 350 gold per battle to a sword of harmony for about 150 gold per battle. - thats a 200 gold saving at the loss of stats of 1 raw stat and the 9% cold switching to 6% melee.
I could also drop from a clover of fortune at 290 gold per battle to an amulet of fortune at 150 gold, saving 150 gold at the expense of 6% ini.
I could also drop to grace armour, boots and helmet from the dawn equivalents, saving another 100 gold at the expense of 3 def but gaining 3 ini. So what is this all together.
Well gold saving from using these cheaper arts is 440, at the cost of 429 gold per battle min from this arrangement of skill potion. So it is cheaper this way. Lets look at total perks from arts
up +14 total attack and defence from PoS, then reduced to +10 overall due to art difference. For ini, you gain 6% from PoS, then lose 3 net from art swaps, to make it +3% ini.
So in summary, based on this set up, I save gold and get +10 raw stats and 3% ini from just considering the min WG battles alone and swapping out some omre expensive arts. This ignores any faction based benefit, or any additional battles I may do (though also ignores the smaller perks on melee damage etc).
To me however, it seems a clear choice. If in any given week you know you will do all your WG battles in a non main faction, consider whether it would be cheaper and better for you to do it with a PoS and slightly cheaper arts.
Please do evaluate this for your own circumstances, you may be surprised, I was! | You missed the advantage of unique racial skills | for Dark-Ninja_lord:
This is what I meant by This ignores any faction based benefit, from my 3rd from last paragraph | Love the analysis. Good work! | Nice. Indeed, potion helps a lot. But some battles of WG need good arts as well for maximum score. |
