How does shares work?

AuthorHow does shares work?
So I learned that you need 20 parts of an art to sell 1 which sounds like a big scam so I have been wondering if its the same case with shares?
Say I buy 4 shares of a facility, so do I own 4 shares of that particular facility or there's a catch to it too?
you get 4 shares of the facility.

Each share gets you 1% of the profit (not income) of the facility per week :)
And what are those number in parenthesis?
Like xxx fcaility area - 2 [4]
what does that 4 means?

1)20,000 shares of two hundred production facilities were distributed free of charge among the 19,589 most active Lords and Ladies of the Empire from the 5th combat level;
As Hapkoman writes: They were introduced earlier this year based on activity. Many people cashed in back then because they prefered money at once rather than steady income because the latter was is not that big. Shares are auctioned off on the market if a player is inactive for 30 days.
but how were they distributed amongst players?

As mentioned above 20,000 shares were distributed free of charge to the empire's most active players based on number of fights in the weeks previous.

You received between 1 and 4 shares dependent on activity, with the better shares going to those higher up the ranking.

Virtually every active player received 1 share and to get 2 or more you had to do a ridiculous number of fights, think it was about 50 pages of combat log in a month to get more than 1.

Shares are auctioned off on the market if a player is inactive for 30 days.

The timer on this is 3 months, the first lot of inactive shares was just sold off this week with a starting price of 1 gold.
