AuthorInvitation program
I am opening it here and not in Queries and help or Ideas and suggestions as hopefully an interesting duscussion happens :)

Did you try to get new players to the game through the invitation program?

It seems that game popularity is slowly declining. It seems that most of active players are those who regietered few years ago. Administration does not spend money on advertising and it seems that is also not very actively looking for free advertising with help from players so I was wondering if we can take things in our hands and invite friends or make websites to popularise the game.

Did you try this? What were the results? Can you give any tips?
I tried it when I had registered initially (Back in 2010); sadly Turn Based Strategy by itself is not the most appealing / mass format; coupled with the fact that there are many more (visually appealing) free games available in the market, LWM doesn't fare that well.

Now the scenario is even worse for LWM , I personally play 3 other F2P games (I won't name, as I think that would be against forum rules) which I willingly spend a lot more real money on simply because of the pace & progression. This game requires a long term time commitment with very little to give back in terms of progression pace, rather this game has one of the slowest progressions I've ever come across. For someone to reach level 18 / 20, you easily need to devote a couple of years (even as a regular gamer).

The biggest of all, first impressions of the game is very... meh. Even for a TBS game, for a new player (who is already exposed to so many other games) this game leaves a very dated impression.

That said, I think this game is severely under rated & the fact that (correct me if I'm wrong) this is not an officially licensed HWM game makes it difficult to market it in the English market. I really liked the game back in 2010s, but now there are just way too many alternates in the market.

I totaly agree with Aka. I’ve invited a few friends over and they gave it a try (leveled between 5 and 9).
Eventualy they all left because of the slow progresion and no ending. They went on to play other games that look a lot better in terms of graphics, have big battles and there is an ending at some point (like 1 year and than it starts over).

To tell you the thurth, I don’t see this game ending well for the .com . It will continue to slowly die if admins don’t take action.
Indeed this game for someone who like slow progress. I Saw my sister register at 2009 and leave 2012.
My brother continue playing this account 2014 and leave it 2017 with this account had minus and banned.
My self continue play this account since 2018. 2 years to get LV 15 from middle lv 13. Maybe because i only play with smartphone and waiting for auto daya or quick battle :)
Totally this:

For me, many left shortly after lv5 when they hit the "money" wall in the "lord of war and money" trying to keep up with the ap requirements, not being able to complete all the castle buildings until much later, etc.

Community is also an important factor and I am glad the .com forum is still being kept active. It's the one place where we can at least make a positive impact together as a player.

PVP experience is one of the most appealing aspect of this game.
But for this, we do need the cooperation from the Russian players since they dominated the playerbase.
I know I am not touching 2v2 CG again after trying it once and met with insults, swearing, and accusations all in one combat. It was an awful experience when it would cost them even less to be a nicer human-being and offer positive feedback instead.
While this is still the case, I cannot honestly recommend group battles to any new players, and that is such a shame.

Same
It is not good to jump into such extreme conclusion.. obviously there are some players who are totally a spoilsport, but that doesnt mean all russians are same.
Since the density of russian players are more, density of such players falling in russian category is more.
Otherwise russians are also very friendly, and in many cgs they even talk using translators, instead of me always talk by translator using russian. :)
for TraceFFF:
He never said all Russians are mean. It's just that once you have a toxic encounter, it discourages you to participate in CG.
It was implied nonetheless, so I should've specified the toxic playerbase specifically.
Having Russian support would help combatting this problem simply due to their size and influence. So it is always reassuring to hear that there are friendly players willing to help.
Since we have brought up the issue of toxicity; I believe that is not restricted to just this game but pretty much any & all PvP oriented multiplayer games.

I personally have experienced (& have responded with out of sheer frustration) utterly pathetic levels of abuse & insults in live PvP matches in other games. But I see this as a pattern in almost every game & not just LWM.

To the contrary, I find LWM / HWM forum to be a lot cleaner & friendlier than many. Within the game itself I always give the benefit to players given games also act as a brilliant platform to vent out real life frustration & / or personal shortcomings / insecurities.

So yes, my point being toxicity is not restricted to this game alone & is normally a common factor in PvP oriented games / modes. Rather in some real time games, my friends & I purposefully tilt talkative opponents to make them rage quit or commit mistakes. This could be slurs, isolated targeting (in team games), etc., the point being everyone wants to win no matter what. (Good reflection of real life too eh!)

Fair enough
About this websites to popularise the game, are any of the websites in Beliar's pinned post being actively maintained?
Some of them seems really promising, although they seems to be more geared towards guides and references. I only know A&D, witchhammer and daily hwm.
Your stories sound maybe not very positive but to me that brought melancholy and kind of romantic feel. After all, I started over 11 years ago, althought my longest break was about 3 years.

It was discussed in other thread few months ago what is best in lordswm. You could see that continuity, long term stability, playability and community were one of key points.

I believe that this is more than enough to bring more fans of HoMM series and turn based strategies. Adding 5-10k more active players would make such a great difference while in the real world this so little when we look at how many people play strategy games.

So now when .com was added to .ru our goal could be to make player base more in favour of .com interface players. The more of us play, the easier it should be to bring even more. If someone plays 2-3 year that is long enough. You can quit, forget but one day log in again and play another year and so on.
I have started by posting on the local fansite of HoMM series. Enough to mention that the last post about LordsWM in that thread was from year 2010...

Possibly there are more fansites in many countries. Justo go to local sites and post that such game exists. Keep the thread active. If every of us bring 5 players per month, that would be a lot. Even if just one of them stay active over a year, that would also be a lot when the numbers add up.
Soon, the old .com map will be enough for us all :D
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
