You get silver when you sell the creatures you do not use. You do not get any silver from a fight but creatures.
Go to recruit page - you will find an option to sell/upgrade them for silver.

| Extra: Press the remove button from the creature you do not want to use. For example fairies. Then go to ELF tab and you will be able to sell fairies for silver. |
