For the life of me I can't figure out how to properly play these guys.
The little imps die insanely quickly so I just use Demons yet they get killed quickly too as their speed is so slow.
Also, I have never been able to get "Gate" to work, I don't even know what it does. Any demon veterans out there that can give me some pointers? | Gating
This is a unique Demonic ability which allows your troops to call for additional reinforcements right on the combat field. The amount of troops summoned directly depends on the numbers of the summoning stack. Any demonic creature led by a hero is able to gate a stack consisting of [20%+4%*Demon skill level] creatures of the summoning stack. This ability is extremely useful against neutral creatures. You will be able to distract enemy troops with the summoned armies and destroy them with your main forces, use magic or simply run them over with everything you've got.
Gated stacks disappear after combat. Note that if only gated creatures are left, the Demon loses the fight immediately, as if he or she didn't have them at all.
fight with necromansers and you can win. | Ah alright.
Any tips for level 1 fighting tactics?
I currently use 2 stacks of 11 demons and split my imps into 5 stacks. That means 5 mana gets drained from any wizard.
However, my demons just don't seem to measure up against other races hard hitters. | I'd recommend to keep demons in 1 stack. you lose a lot of damage on retaliation: even if you attack with both stacks, only one retaliates enemy attacks. This will probably hurt your mobility a little more, but demons on lvl1-2 are tanks =) the 5 units of imps + a hufe stack of demons must do the trick | Ok, this is what I have been using so far:
Level 1:
Minimal Imps
Maximum Demons
Imps:
They die when someone breathes on them, divide them into the most stacks possible. Each stack will drain 1 mana from your opponent. Now they can only cast one spell on you. After this, use them as retal fodder and ranged damage blocker. (Ranged can't shoot with a unit in base contact)
Demons:
These will be your mainstay, you're big guns. Too bad they suck, but hey, who said being a demon lord would be easy. Not much tactics involved here, provoke retals with your imps and hit with demons. If there is no ranged, gate the first turn to get in some reinforcements. Use those for retal fodder duty also.
Chances are, you're not going to win much. Accept it and move on to:
Level 2:
Imps:
More suckage from them. You can have 5 now though, 5 stacks of 1 that drain 1 mana away at the start of the fight. After that same use as level 1.
Demons:
Divide into two groups now. Opponents with ranged should try to flank you, don't let that happen. Elves will just plain kill you, against the rest you have a pretty decent shot.
General notes:
Don't cluster your troops when fighting magic users.
Gate if you have time before you have to fight, remember, melee only factions have tot come to you, use the time to get ready. |
