Author | The hidden 50% hunting rule |
Cheers Heroes players,
latley I had a great discusion about the fact, that it becomes more and more common in this game, that players who assist others in hunt, expect to be paid with 50% of the gold. But in fact its a social beaviour, not a games rule.
Questions over questions:
- Is it fair to request money of someone who just helped you?
- Is it absolute necessary to get compansated for the hunt, because as assistent you loose troops and dont earn XP nor gold?
- Should all players follow this rule of thumb or should it be free to decide for everyone?
- If 50% gold to assistent would be wanted by all players and the developers, why isnt it allready programmed into the game, so it happens automatically?
I really would like to hear all of your opinions. And please dont get me wrong, I support all of your opinions, I just want to see where the majority tends to.
Here is mine:
In fact we are currently living in a society (im from germany), where help is not granted for free. The per-head-consumption and therefore life costs are such high, that noone is willing to do anything without being payed for, because he/she is not able to pay rents etc. Everyone of the 21 business days must be a cash day, otherwise they go down. Of course, in an emergency, like a car acdident, help is a MUST and it says so in the law: Look away and go to cell. I totally agree. So "help" is not equal to "labor". It should be the way that people just help to just help, not for money. | On russian server all normal people pay for assistanse
assistant spends his time, so he should receive pay for help
without assistante the one who askes for help will receive nothing; so he should share the loot
I, for example, help in hunts a lot of people, but ionly several ofthem paid..
and 4 or 5 times the person, who asked for help, went afk.. I won all this hunts.. but I had to wait more than 10 minutes!! and receive no payment | 2+
I helped in hunt more then 50 times.. but only 12 people paid..
I don't argue.. I don't demand people to pay: but I want them play fast, if they called for help.. and if they went afk, I think I should receive all loot, because I won the hunt alone. | I never ask for pay and I never pay anyone. I think 80g or 150g reward all together isnt something worth sharing. Be happy you got some free skill points from the hunt. | I don't really care as long as everyone moves fast. I go to assist just because i can't hunt on my own or have no battle at that moment. I sometimes pay, sometimes i get payed, but i really don't care. Its not like i will get rich from assists anyway.. | Hello friends
I believe this discussion arises from help rendered to me by the kind hearted Halbarus, when I requested for a day ago, which I thank him again for his kindness.
My sympathy for his hardship in Germany. I am from Singapore where prices are going up and up but I think the situation is not as bad as his.
Game should be played according to rules set down by the its creators, just like a country is governed according to its Constitution. Everyone is subjected to the Rule of Law including the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary who was entrusted to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution. Unwritten or hidden rule can never be law, the most it can be treated as a Convention. A Convention only works if everyone consider it as binding upon themselves voluntarily and it serves a useful function. Law on the other hand binds everybody regardless of their consent.
We play game according to its set rules just like we live life in accordance to law in our country. If the rule is important, it is up to the creators of the game to introduce them and enforce them strictly. By not putting the rule on "statutory" footing, I believe the idea is to intoduce the element of flexibility so that players may modify their playing style to their own liking but not forcefully imposed theirs onto others. The game may then evolve slowly according to majority preferences improving it along the way. What is rule in other games is not automatically or necessary rule in this game; just like law in UK is not law in USA.
I believe all players have equal rights (correct me if I am wrong). No one player is above another and could not introduce new rule unilaterally to forcefully influence another to his liking.
To put it short; act accordingly to established rule, not any hidden or unwritten one. This ensure transparency, certainty and consistency which all players can abide easily. Any conflicts arising could then be resolved with reference to these written rules. Of course Parole Evidence rule applies here.
With regard to questions posed :
- Fair to invite the helpee to make a contribution to the helper. It should be "invite" not coercion.
- The helper gained some skill point (not nothing at all), appreciation and friendship from the helpee.
- Left to individual discretion for maximum enjoyment of the game.
- That is my thinking too. Players should be able to act to their own wishes within the ambit of the rules.
We are living in a highly stressful global society. Let's not duplicate this adversity in this mini-world which all of us enjoyed so much.
To Halbarus : Thanks again for the help. Please relax and find serenity in this virtual world where players from all over the world meet. Remember the sole idea of playing the game is to enjoy and make friends. Thank you. | I give 50% of gold for hunt assists for those who also give gold when they are assisted.
Checking transfer and combat logs of other players sometimes also reveals cheaters! But that is another topic. | I tend to agree with Brilliant. I have helped many times, never to receive any reward for it and I have seldom given anything to anyone that helped me. That's the whole point actually, the feature is called "ask for assistance" not "hire a hunter". If anyone should find it in him to send some money to the helper so be it. If not, it's all good. The few Hunter's guild and racial skill points the helper receives are enough for me. Some players I've heard of that demand payment or bail the fight should be banned from the game imho. However, I also agree with Aravil. If the helpee should go afk for any reason, the hunt should become the helper's and he should get everything. | I never demand payment from those I help, though I always share the loot with the assistent. Some people set terms once they enter combat as my help, others promise to pay without me asking. All in all it's a matter of preferances. There's no rule stating that one has to share, so I don't believe anyone has to do it, but it's certanly nice to check my log and see some transfers from fellow hunters.
And if the reward is so small that it doesn't matter, why not share it? I'm happy to get 40-100 gp from a hunt, and so far no one has complained about me sharing. People don't send the money back you know)
And the majority of people on .ru shares, even though they are obliged to wear arts in every battle, and therefore spent money on hunting. so helping costs more than just 10 min of waiting.
Certanly it's true that the assistant gets 0.25 skill point, and 0.1 HG, and maybe it's rewarding enough. I don't know. What I do know is that there's no right or wrong here. It's all up to players. And it's a good thing too) | Whoa that was some rant...
I hope it makes sense ;) | the point isnt in money...its just like said "thanks" | and one more thing..
on russian server when I helped in hunt, I HELPED: that meant I didn't try to receive maximum skillpoints, I took off counterstrikes.. I tryed to kill the amount of enemies, that will be enough for win, so the one who asks for help receives normal amount af skilpoints and experience.. and I received money for beeing good helper
I did it here.. but I don't receive money from help.. so I maximy the usefullness of help: I try to kill as much enemies as I can to receive 0,25 skillpoints.. and sometimes the one who asks for help receives 0,2 or less.. if I received money, I won't do this.. | Iam always sharing loot, and always expect it from the others (few times on ru server i was disconected from server so after i come back i even did pay 1000 gold as fee to assistant, as rules speak there), ofcourse there are only a few gold coins and realy means nothing in my economy, but it is like rules of good behaviour, u always say hi, bae, thanks even if u get nothing matirial from that, ofcours if u fink it is to smoll to be shared u can give 100 gold (or more) for help everitime not looking at loot or u can just give all the loot to assistant, and if u are very greed or finking u are poor ofcourse u can left your loot its yours desition, in any case i will not pursuit u im only geting fun from the game. | I dont want payment if i haelp but i give 50% of lot or if there is an art the art to thatone who helpedme =) | People rly wat that 75% leet them make it into the game I ussualy hunt then go away I wont give to anyone and I never want to give any to me. | What's the point in stealing skill points from the helpee when you can't get more than 0.25? Anyway, help is help. For me it means take off retaliate, cast supportive spells, allow the other guy to strike, etc.
Some people say thanks for this, others say thanks and share loot. Both work for me, but I definetly prefer to recieve smth, especially when the other party gets an art.
That said, I don't, and never will, blacklist people who don't share. That's ridiculous, imho. | Umm... what did def say before "I usually hunt then go..."? | it all depends, on .ru I always share. here I will share if the person asks me too... and i never ask anybody to share. | I think it should be "optional", but I'm always happy when I recieve a little something for my effort. If I get artifacts or skeletons I usually give the money back.
I would pay half or more if I asked for help, I don't really hunt for money. | To share loot or not is your own affair. I'm help in hunting not for money, but for the interesting fight and chance to receive a good artifact. But payment for help I accept with gratitude and always share my loot. |
