| In HoMM3 Barbarians had Cyclops as tier 6 creatures, top tier 7 was Behemoth and Ancient Behemoth, I haven't seen any monster resembling them here though. |

i've actually seen another dragon, i've been randomely looking around to see for any new units >^,,^<
It could easily be the upgrade of green dragon in relation to HoMMV, the upgrade being emerald dragon but i found one called brilliant dragon.

Hey I also found non-upgraded for of black dragon called dark dragon. You don't get magic immunity in this one and less hp. Still looks cool though ;-)

Hatred
Basilisk was one of the Fortress (Swamp) creature who could petrify enemies. That faction also has Mighty Gorgon who can do a death-stare which has a chance to kill enemy creature out right, even top tier Dragons.
Phoenix was in the Elven/sorceress faction in HoMM2, in HoMM3 Rampart/Elves switch to green/gold dragons. Phoenix went to the Conflux... but I did like phoenix for elves better. |

About originality, I remember reading the new race in HoMM3 expansion wasn't Conflux when they first planned it. They had this high-tech race in mind, which had chain-saw zombies, naga tanks, and rocket-launcher orcs kind of theme :D but it seem to get scratched after the design sketches were shown to fans and received a big boo.
High tech and future technology themes were there in old MM games though, and might be a refreshing quirky race to play aside from the fantasy/medieval 8 factions.
In comparison Conflux wasn't that interesting, since they reused 4 of the neutral Elementals for 3-6 tiers of the creatures, sprites and phoenix directly taken from HoMM2. |
