I hate it how it's obvious that the battle is over, but you have to fight it out to the last unit to end the game. Or what about the times when you;re in a team battle and someone goes afk? If there was a surrender button, you would save so much time on recovery....
no. That's a bad idea.
why is that a bad idea?
because surrendering is not the way of a hero!
i agree that it is not the bravest way to decide a battle but a surrender button can be useful.

i think it can be a great idea:
- sometimes can be appens that the duration of group battle is too long,
(or for other reasons), so someone can (or must) leave the battle....
if he/she go afk, the others must wait the "afk" time...
(from 30 to 120 sec for 5 turns)
and is a great waste of time for all..
The surrender button can be a form of respect for all the others...
...so if you decide, without the surrender button you go "afk"
with the surrender button is like to go "afk" but without waste of time

this is bad because then people will think it is ok to afk because admins have brought in afk button. and the second they get bored they will press it and ruin ot for others. it should be an emergency only button like you must leave because of a family emergency e.t.c. and so to prevent casual use they should make a punishment for using it e.g. -2 luck for 12 hours or something like that so people dont use it to annoy other players but it can be used if necessary
I agree on surrender button. But it should be the same as if all your troops were killed by the other side. So there should be no difference in terms of xp/sp and general outcome of a normal defeat.
I think another idea about this....

to do the minimum problem for the battle,
when the "emergency/surrender button" is pressed....

1) same xp and skill and same punishment like afk

2) all "surrended troops" remain in the battlefield
like autodefend function, so, the player cannot use it,
there is no waste of time, and the troops are in "defend button mode"
so can ratail, and enemies must destroy them in any case, and gains exp for destroy them like a normal battle...

3) if admins wants, can enable the button only 1 time for day "for all",
so if you use it or if your opponent use it in the first battle,
in the next battle the button were disabled,....
so noone can use it to do experiences each others, like hunts.

Seriously bad idea. This would mean free xp and fsp, resulting in increased staged combats. You talk about retal, but thats just plain silly, since there are so many types of units that attack without retal, including the player himself/herself. In the first place, a surrender button will lead to increased staged combats. For grp battles, this would be nasty, as the teammates of 1 team is at a disadvantage if one of these contractual players surrender halfway.

If there was to be a surrender option, it should be on a group consensus, whereby all parties of the team agree to surrender. This at least would reduce the possibility of staged combats. There should be no such options for pvp, for the reason suggested in the previous para.

I think it would be a better idea if the one who got afk;

1. still got 0 exp,0 skill and -2 luck..

2. In normal fights his troop would still die.

3. But in Group battles where the players has teammates, his troops would still be there.. (ex. a 2 vs 2 fight... the bottom left player goes afk. 5 turns of waiting like now and then the top left player gets control of bottom left players troops.. but the top left player still only get the skill and exp from his own troops but are now able to win the fight)
I whole heartedly agree . .there's many reasons for a surrender button besides the obvious couple . but they are mostly to deal with time . why waste time on a battle that's lost or the other one afk .. to see the exact exps earned ? I would gladly take a penalty to use the surrender button and not have to wait . or would wish that someone who has to leave a game for any number of reasons has the decency to push the surrender button before leaving .. Lesser penalty than afks .. (even though afk is a thing of net connection or maybe even a crash , not always because of bad netiquette , but such is what we have to work with and must accept it , as it is beyond our ability to control , for now ) ...

Ok any how . that would mean no more long waits . there is a possibility of even adding a 'DRAW' button ? . Both Players must click . one offers and the other one clicks to agree .. like in online chess .. . because there could be a time problem for both challengers or simply they are good friends and will take up the battle another time because one has to go . . Of course .. or any reason .
But the surrender button is absolutely necessary .. I've lost so many merc quests on account of time .. when on the way back i get ambushed .. especially by a thief who just waits so long with the time . That's just stupid . I will lose anyhow . but I don't care . I would give double the money for an auto lose and give extra experience to thief and take zero myself .. all to not waste my time and also get to finish my quest on time .. a successful merc quest , especially the bigger 5 attempt ones is not something to throw lightly aside..
And maybe less time for the thief . so that he can't 'just lazily' attack . he's ambushing !!!! He should be given less time . because the idea of an ambush is stealth and speed . be quick .. so thief's turn time should be short and i would be happy to hear all times shortened in ambush .. the victim too.

So BIG YESS to surrender buttom and why not make a draw button as well .. some battles do end in draw when king meets king :)
As for Group Battles . that's more difficult . perhaps to move up the ratio of experience gained for the remaining 2 players . .... of course that means they would have to all compete as if winners .. not easy .. there is still a loophole in that . if one player sees the battle is a loss . he might sacrifice himself by surrendering to give his buddies a much higher exp's bomus . ..

Group battles are difficult .. unless the player surrendering manages to get another player on the other team to also 'accompany' him . .the accompanying player would not suffer penalty and could be given a fixed exp amount and be rewarded with a no army damage bonus . so that they can battle again right away on another battlefield , quest or hunt somewhere
That keeps the 3 vs 3 battlefield even and fair .. knocking it down to a 2 vs 2 battlefield . Of 3 other players it might not be hard to find one who will do that . if the player can leave the battlefield being given a 100 % regen . able to start fight again immediately ..
That is at least much better than someone going afk and making FIVE other people waste time and just wait . .the opponents won't attack afk . waste of time . .unless he's playing possom or comes back in..
I've also had troubles where the game or net disconnected me . or simply crashed . .but better I suffer these problems to myself and not waste the time of FIVE other people . 1 suffers . sad ... but bring in 5 others to share your fare .. WHY ????
And the other battle situations .. 2 vs 2 ..same as 3 vs 3

1 vs 2 .... draw button ? if one player knows they have run out of time and must afk, this would be for friendlies .. and definitely a surrender button , for who will want to fight when it was a challenge with 2 and now you are 1

The experience awarded for draws could be low but better than a loss . or could be zero ..and everyone awarded full health for whoever can still go battle again.

1 vs 1 , Maybe the one player is too strong and is teaching the 2 others and wishes not for them to suffer too much . draw button

maybe the bigger player has to leave

all draw button or surrender . .depending on the circumstances.

all for one . well that's easy enough . surrender don't suffer as hard a penalty .. surrender get a small amount of xps ?

My dear lords and ladies,

Here are my two cents worth regarding AFKs in battle.

My suggestion is, right before ANY battle begins (but after you've split up your troops and clicked the attack button), there should be a confirmation button indicating you're there and ready to fight (with a 15 sec timer?). If every player clicks it, the battle proceeds as normal. If not, then after timer goes out, the player(s) who did NOT click it are considered AFK. Their hero leaves BUT their troops stay and defend (not attack). AFKers get the -2 luck penalty, XP is distributed as usual (no XP for the AFKer).

However, if someone goes AFK "after" they've clicked the confirmation button, not only does his/her troop stay, their hero leaves and they get -2 luck, but they should also get an ADDITIONAL penalty of -XP(AFKers lvl * faction lvl * number of player). For example: A 3 vs 3 battle, all lvl 4 and everone at faction lvl 2 would equal 4 * 2 * 6 (# of players) = -48 xp loss for AFKer.

I know, what about disconnect issues? Hopefully, you should have enough time to reconnect and get back into the fight, if not I'm sorry but thats an issue between your computer and/or your ISP provider.

In this game xp lose is not a option...

Even with any punishments u can think of there will always be people abusing it.

This idea is simply anoying, people will join group battles and use with additional chars.
No retreat no surrender.
xp loss for AFKer -> bad idea

a confirmation button before ANY battle begins -> good idea

all draw button or surrender depending on the circumstances -> good idea

the surrender button is absolutely necessary all to not waste my time and also get to finish my quest on time .. a successful merc quest - > very good reason

in Group battles where the players has teammates, his troops would still be there -> good idea
Surrender button - bad idea
better option - auto play button, when system take over your troops and act like AI.
Player who goes in PvP AFK his troops take over auto play button so it is more balanced game. Now both sides have at least a chance to win. He do not get any exp. and get -2 luck for 2 hrs (the same as went afk).

If I do PvP and i have to go, i leave my teammates to wait to lose (a lot of time). So auto play button i think would be good idea.
the only thing i think is good is
u get to control your partners troops after he afk's....
