Empire and the Kingdom
Breathing hard and wincing in pain, Abu Bakr staggered into the audience hall and closed the door, turning the key three turns in the lock. He stood near the door for some time, listening, hoping no one was not going to use his sudden appearance to bombard him with boring questions, or, may the Twin Gods forbid it, inquire of him where he came from and what he was doing. Abu Bakr immediately bit his own tongue to stop himself from cursing: unlike most of the inhabitants of the Empire, he did not share the popular belief of the two Twin Gods, that they created this and the surrounding worlds. As someone who dedicated his life to studying the laws of Nature and Magic, he knew about how the worlds are created and how the collapse.
The question of where Abu Bakr come from and what he was doing, with his current form there would not be much debate on it: A dishevelled, sweaty magician with a the sleeves of the gown torn, with blood trickling through the tears told of his participation in a combat-filled adventure. Abu Bakr slumped in a chair, closed his eyes, and again before his eyes flashed the entire series of events that began so long ago, which has only found its conclusion today. "Conclusion?" - Abu Bakr caught himself, "For many, this will just be the beginning ... "
... It all began in the Main Imperial Library on a very fine day, well even before the incident with the war of the elements. Abu Bakr was not the court magician yet and was only applying to join the post, he spent days and nights in the library studying spells and ancient texts. One of these days he, while rummaging the contents of a neighbouring cell of the library, stumbled upon the key with strange symbols. The key was forged from a lightweight soft metal, probably tin, and had a flowery pattern on the bottom ring, the letter "K" located in the center of the ring was made in quite a different metal and in a very distinctive style. Abu Bakr's photographic memory at once alerted him to a casket in the library's section on curiosities, which was engraved with just such a letter.
Ten minutes later, the next court wizard could be more delighted. In the box, which has stood so long in the curiosities section waiting in secret to reveal its precious contents, was an old scroll, almost untouched by anyone. About half of the surface of the scroll was faded, and some of the text was lost.
Abu Bakr immediately realized that this document referred to the Ancient Empire. This assumption was immediately confirmed for the writing on the scroll was in an ancient tongue, which had not been in use more since than 400 years ago. However, as any graduate of the Academy of Magic Supreme would be, Abu Bakr was fluent in it. He could not hold back his patience and began reading.
..... | "Chronicles of the Empire and the Kingdom"
Since time immemorial, the Empire and the Kingdom lived in a state of peace and friendship. Trade flourished, and there was sharing of technologies and resources, trust and mutual support. So strong were the bonds between the two powers, it seemed, that the friendship will last for centuries.
<...>
In the year 789 in the Capital of the Kingdom, ancient ruins were found. All the brightest minds of the Empire and the Kingdom gathered at the excavation and research found rooms. Many found

discovered a strange room. No one could have known if it was gold, knowledge, or the most powerful artifacts, but it was known for certain that after this, something seemed to overshadow the residents of the Kingdom.
Without warning, the troops invaded of the Empire the Kingdom and began to ravage the countryside and cities of their former ally
<...>
Occurred near the capital of the Empire, the troops of the Kingdom were defeated and retreated.
<...>
opinion that the inhabitants of the Kingdom erected a wall of an unprecedented height, and the greatest magicians of the Kingdom have imposed upon the wall a spell of invisibility. All attempts to dispel the spell by the mages of the Empire had not been successful, nor were the attempts of their followers or descendants.
I, the court chronicler of the Empire of my time, ends this description of events leading to war with the Kingdom with an attached map on this card
<...>
descendants of those who will read this record, find a way to destroy the insidious Kingdom, do not to allow them to gain strength for the realisation of the plans of their unimaginable Black King." | Abu Bakr was struck to the depths of the soul. On one hand, the authenticity of the document was not in doubt due to not only the appearance and condition of the scroll, but also the existence of various references to "Kingdom" in other sources from the same period.
But on the other hand, academics at the end of the last century were of the opinion that the "Kingdom" is the Solar City, which has since been incorporated into the expanding empire, and Abu Bakr saw no reason to disagree with this theory. On the attached map, though the scroll had been faded and lost more than half of its contents, it was easy to understand what was the territory in question, as well as the fact that the common hypothesis was fundamentally wrong.
What haunted him was the mention of the sinister plans of the Kingdom. To his great disappointment, the portion of the parchment which told of the ruins and the contents of the strange room, had faded and was no longer able to tell of the events that the ancient scribe tried so hard to carry through the ages.
And it was then that Abu Bakr had came to a fateful and illogical decision: Not to disclose his discovery, to conduct all investigations independently, and individually research and verify if this chronicle was reliable. Whatever was found in the ruins, whatever plots of ancient origin, perhaps the current rulers of the Kingdom, should be alerted to, but Abu Bakr had already listed in his head a chain of concerns that told him that his chosen path was the path he should follow instead... | For many years, Abu Bakr followed this great goal. Events such as his appointment as Court Magician, the birth of the first great-grandson, and then a second flew by, but the focus of most of his life since that day in the library was poured into this quest.
Of course, he quickly realized what spell the "curse of invisibility" was, and why the followers of the ancient magical ways could not dispel it. The spell "Impalpability" was so complex that neither Abu Bakr, nor Grand Master, or head of the Academy of Magic could do anything to it- only their joint efforts would lead to the desired result. The ancient spell was equal in power to any of them, but required a powerful concentration of spiritual forces near the object to which the spell was cast on, as well as a list of magical ingredients which was difficult to purchase, or derive.
He recalled how, under cover of darkness, he secretly left the academy for a month to make sure that the place indicated on the map actually led to the Kingdom. He obtained a poisonous fang which had to be pulled from the mouth of a wyvern involved in a unfair fight as one of the required ingredients after searching for more than two years. A rare stone, bezoar, had to be collected along with components from different parts of the Empire; from Guild mercenaries he got a special, live moonstone; he spurred Lords to vote for the Empire, for a victory in the voting process brought the last missing element - metal figurines.
And all this would not make sense, would not happen, until today. It is today that Abu Bakr finally dispelled the spell after more than five hundred years of hiding the circular wall around the Kingdom from the eyes and ears of outsiders. Arrows shot from a surprised archer on the wall, just grazing Abu Bakr's arm above the elbow, and he chose to flee before a better archer replaced the first.
He achieved his goal but that was now but a small matter: to tell about his work.
He understood perfectly that the Court would not praise him for hiding the details of an issue of this magnitude. But everything depended not on him. War is coming, he thought, sooner or later, but it will start. And that whether his name will it be heralded through the ages in the rays of glory, or will be cursed and become to all as a curse word depends on the outcome of this war. | hm....
tldr ... or they dont have that on .ru ? | The destruction of the wall
Gathering his courage, Abu Bakr hurried to the palace. He was sure to be able to tell anyone what he managed to capture in his photographic memory: Tall, mountain-like, stone walls, archers, infantry sentries on the towers, witches who were magical guardians on the towers ... The wall stretched from the East to the West, as far as the eye can see, ans its image did not leave the head of the magician. No matter how he tried, no matter how Abu Bakr thought over the matter, he was never able to find any doors or windows, no gaps or loopholes.
The Council assembled at the request of the court magician, and did not last long. The audacity and self-will of Abu Bakr eclipsed the importance of news he told. The court did not need a history lesson: the news that the Kingdom that once attacked and ruined the Empire and Sun City are the same caused not only great interest, but also generated controversy about how and when to attack this threat. The aggressive-minded warriors suggested to attack immediately, while others, more reserved ones, advocated to use scouts and gather more data, and lastly, the trade-minded considered all this to be more meaningless warfare, and insisted on continuing to prepare for the New Year holidays.
The Empress, after hearing and weighing all the pros and cons, announced her decision: Postpone the war, and perform limited raids across the border of the Kingdom. Empire announced a military gathering. All players from 5th level onwards are invited to a military raid on the border with the Kingdom. The wall that surrounds the enemy on all sides, is an insurmountable obstacle to military action. The current main task is the destruction of any security towers and external garrisons. Only by destroying them, can you can destroy the wall and, finally, enter into enemy territory. | sorry for offtopic
