Author | Explanation of range |
So I have noticed that my skeletal bowmen do much more damage the closer the enemy is to them. I also see a range stat of 6 on the creature profile. I am assuming that this means the max range for normal damage and beyond that any damage is reduced. Can someone shed some light on all of this? |
6 range = 6 squares |

you are right! out of range is 50% dmg. |
if the creature that you are attacking is more than 6 squares away (your range), then the damage done will be half of the original damage. If it is in the range (6 squares), then it will be the full damage |
is the range of 6 squares just straight ahead?
what about 6 squares diagonally? will that be in range also? or do we have to use a formula similar to speed calculation? |
yes, same as speed calcualtion
like this

X= ranged unit
o= 6 shooting range (100%dmg) |
ahh.. the diagram helps a lot.
thanks a lot. |
Tha diagram is wrong in at least 2 places.
The best way to see if the unit is in-range is to point at it with a cursor. Straight arrow - full dmg. Broken arrow - half dmg. |

The range diagram should be like this; + is the area in which crossbowmen's range 3 aimed shot effectively ignores defense.
Ranged attack area works the same way movement is calculated, 1st diagonal used 2 range, 2nd diagonal used 1, 3rd diagonal used 2, 4th diagonal used 1. |
Excellent! Many thanks for the clarification. |

Guess it should be something like this then, where - is the area in which units can't shoot :-) |

:) |
well thats only for crossbowmen right?
i mean normal bowmen dont have those first 3 steps where they ignore defence, or do they? |
No, so they only use the blue lines. ;) |
There are only (currently) three options for range:
1: Range 6.
2: Unlimited range.
3: Range 6 with Range 3 being wicked. |
and 100 and 127 for magis and lorekeepers |
