| Author | Well, how would you make money if you were LoWM? |

This is an extension from another topic, since I didn't want to go too far off topic:
Why not make them cost diamonds to play? Assuming that they're not stronger than other races, what's wrong with that?
Exactly that the game woudn't be free anymore.
Somebody's gotta pay for this, I'd rather it wasn't me. :)
Well, it's not like anyone's making you pay now, or demanding payment from you in future, no? :)
It's gotta happen. Servers cost money. Servers that don't crap out 2-3 hours a day cost more money. Programming costs time, and time is money. I don't expect that the developers are looking for huge payoffs, but I do expect that they aren't doing this to go broke, either. Generally speaking, if a game isn't getting revenue, it's gonna die sooner or later. I like this game- I don't want it to die!
Some ideas might be...
1. Ads, expecially on the initial signon screens.
2. Locations which you can only get to if you pay a one-time fee.
3. Races which you can only use if you pay a one-time fee.
4. Some new guild equivalent to Thieves Guild were the first few people will be paying lots of diamonds.
5. Special equipment/weapons available with diamonds.
6. Unit upgrades only available with diamonds.
7. Tournaments with a diamond entry fee.
I'm sure there are more ideas out there. Anybody have some good ones?
Personally, I'm in favor of #1 for the signon screens only (OK, maybe the movement screen too. Lord knows there's enough space there). Of the rest, #3 would be the only one I could deal with. I'm especially against #5 and #6. | I disagree with many of these ideas. If too much content is by paid subscription most people will become disillusioned and leave quickly.
Rather than advertisements (because some ads are viruses) perhaps make allowances for a sponsor, which includes a banner (for information about the sponsor and products/serives) and perhaps some other privileges.
A Co-Operative is another idea for those who want to keep it free.

I am totally in favor with this one, along with #1,2,3,5 and 6. | Admins are making good money from this project already. People here donate. People on .ru donate (and online there is 10k)

Matt_777: Roulette with diamonds would be illegal in the United States. Considering that some Russian programmers just went to jail for that, I'd hope that LoWM wouldn't try it!

Some of those suggestions would make payers overpower non-payers. | This server is as self-supporting as it can be. And they already upgraded this server in preferance to .ru once, so I don't think the game is in danger of shutting down.
Besides, any money spent on .com is an investment, because potential here is greater than of .ru, imo.
Want to support it? Donate yourself. Don't want to donate? Be happy that others do. But thinking of ways to make people spend more money on the game when you don't plan to spend any - I just don't understand this, sorry.
Admins aren't starving, servers aren't falling apart, and there is enough weeping on forums that 'this 'free' game is totaly unfair to poor people who can't donate' as it is. | Roulette in fact is the roulette with real money. I have seen a few people. money->diamonds->gold->roulette->no gold anymore.
8.Diamond shop: Buying elements or hunter artifacts.
..dislike this idea as well, because for me it is fascinating how the market prices of elements and hunter arts are estimated only by demand and offer. | Before someone thinks about making more money with players, he should think about raising the number of players, which is stable, but stagnating. That's the question I would turn to. Because more players = more possible donators and, that's important to me: more fun for us all.
According to the statistics page 200850 characters have been registered in this game. Yeah, I know, many multis and many people who log in for an hour per day. But c'mon, 1200 players in high times are far to little for a game like this. So ask yourself, why the people don't stay in the game. Internet gambling is illegal in the US. But gambling with diamonds in this game won't be illegal.
Why?

can't be called free games anymore. and with that too many advantages on diamonds will make people leave this game, because children, teens or some people that have some problem on their economy can't play, esp. children because most can't get real money except from parents, and i don't think parents will allow their child to waste money for this game. most probably the parents will just buy their child a new game. | | ^^ Seven pills |
