AuthorCheating with gold still lucratible
The problem stated on top of this thread is true - Cheating with gold is still lucrative.

- If you don't get caught, it's a win.
- If you get caught and just pay 1 gold penalty warning, it's a win, and an even better one to boot since all your transfers up to the warning have been addressed.
- If you get caught and pay twice the amount of gold transferred or something like that (if admins manage to figure that out properly, see Georgia post above) it might still be a win, simply because early gold is worth more. 5,000 gold at level 5 is worth more than 10,000 at level 7.

In the end, I feel penalties dealt are too light. There are genuine naive players breaking rules inadvertently, but also real cheaters:
- the guy creating player1 to player10 and making transfer with them
- the guy using fake market transactions to hide his misdemeanor
- the guy transferring between mults, but trying to hide these transfers with fake descriptions to give the impression it's actually two different persons.

And so on. But these people aren't punished more than any other player, when they are at all, and that's a major issue - in my humble opinion.
How does gold actually help someone in the game?????
If you need artifacts just work and save for them.
I have way more gold than I need so I can't understand why someone would want to cheat in this way or any other as it gives no benefit whatsoever as far as I can see. I earn WAY more working than I could possibly need so all it does for me is give me a nice balance.

Early gold or late gold doesn't make the slightest difference as far as I can see either. Am I missing something??????

Am I going to get a benefit when I level up that I don't know about???.... please tell me more about my gold being worth twice as much when I get to level 7....I'm intrigued!
and some who had multi that pays to boost the smithing skill simply got a few K gold penalty, a block for multi, but the already got all the smithing skill point
I have way more gold than I need
well, its you, who at level 5 has worked for 2438 times when i write this. That's more than most people i must admit, and far more than me, level 9.
http://guildofheroes.ru/lords.php?levelst=5&levelfin=5&sort=13&napr=2&submit=se arch...&nick=

check this one. it's statistic from all level 5 that have the least LG. check until page 10 and the higest is only 89 LG, almost reach level 1 LG. unlike you, they level up very fast. And they need far more money to spend on arts than you. why can't you understand such simple thing? Not everyone has the same way to play as you do

later, when you want to raise your smith or enchanter guild, your money and resources won't be enough. Also, if you want to make full enchanted weapon will also cost you much gold

and some who had multi that pays to boost the smithing skill simply got a few K gold penalty, a block for multi, but the already got all the smithing skill point
remind me of someone who increase his enchanting skill for so many and get penalty only for 50k gold =p
24,

remind me of someone who increase his enchanting skill for so many and get penalty only for 50k gold =p

lol... I know what you mean =)
just beware to go too far and become flaming topic later
well.

I was a multi-hunter in another game, and I can tel lyou it isn't easy.

The logs themselves are hard to sift thru, and most if the time we relied on information from players to nab people.

Punishment should not to just take gold away, but to close the entire account and all accounts connected to it. Give a grace period of 2 weeks for people to mail the admins and explain the situation, after 2 weeks it becomes irreversible.

That imho is the only way to deal with cheaters.
some idea i proposed a while ago

=)
Also i might add that...

For myself it is hard to "save" enough gold sometimes for a compelete set because i cannot stop playing long enough to get sufficient an amount of gold.

So if you get a big pile of gold at one time, it will be "worth more" because you will probaly loose less combats, vs players, vs nps, or even being a theif so you gain more initiative. So besides getting "early" gold then a "big pile" of gold also has positive effects.

I recently saw a penalty of 1 gold where it just said "stop financial transfers"... i mean i feel kind of dumb using time to aid in finding cheaters and then their penalty is 1 gold???

Then atleast it makes sense to cheat min. 2 times when you get caught "in it" and then stop... but at that time one would already be better than most characters.

Also when i posted suspect transfers... one does not get a notice when/or if something has happened to the post... so i checked some of my own and the last couple i had posten in complains section. Nothing had happened... so right now i have stopped reporting as it seems a bit like a joke.

I am however still saving some if the penalty system should start to work.

Eg. one could set limits for gold transfers pr lvl...
150 % min fine for "wrongfully transfers" to reciever and 50 % penalty to sender maybe?
If you really really wanted to punish someone to have a genuine effect one could strip stats from the char. that would probaly in effect stop it!
So far i have checked people when i wait for combats... and really i believe that 30 % could be reported of all that i have checked. Eventhough i am fairly good to check those who look a bit suspect from stats that is still way too much, atleast i think so.

Maybe some of the problem is that, everything about penalties and even complaining about too weak penalties are too secret... one is not allowed to really voice anything about anything specific.

Once it is decided... it is decided... just too bad so many cheaters already got a penalty of e.g. 1 gold... they are then safe now?
for Nullby:
Consider the 1st penalty a 1-gold-warning. Players loose all gained gold and are warned not to do that again...

Most times it is less than 1 to 1 gold ratio penalty...
AND when i wrote 1 gold penalty I dont mean 1 to 1 ratio i mean solely 1 gold!
erm... Nullby, may i interrupt this bilateral monologue? ;} sometimes (special emphasis upon "sometimes") a 1-gold penalty or just a warning could prove to be more efficient than a surprising huge fine. of course, it depends on the situation, but if the guilty player stops any illegal activity from this moment on? isn't this the dream of any justice system? a reform without punishment :}

of course, not always! in most cases (especially when the cheater thinks he is smarter than the honest players) i'd vote for a more radical judgement... like block/erase/delete/vanish/evaporate the little nit. }:o
Yeah so you mean its okay he gets a huge gold + art boost... to begin with as long as he stops after this point?

That just sounds like everbody can cheat once... for a while.
And no this isnt the dream of any justice system I know of....
Georgia :

I too do not understand why there is a 1 gold warning. Imagine robbing a bank of $1 mil (no one got hurt in the process) and got fined for $1, with a warning that the next robbery will be punished with the death penalty.

Reform without punishment yes. But do you think the rate of bank robberies will go up or down? In almost all the games I have played, cheating = ban.
suggestion that should decrease ammount of multi-cheats:
Perhaps each main character should have two slots
and in those slots the player inputs his two alternate chars.

Those two assigned chars cannot perform any tasks that are not allowed according to the rules. (whatever trade restrictions or stuff)

(though i think the alternate chars should still have forum privileges, in case of emergencies)
Lucratible? That is worthy of engrish dot com,

If you actually speak English the word is: lucrative.

I think you will always get cheaters, it is human nature. Not that I condone the behavior in any way.

The fact that real world prisons are occupied well proves that people think they can break rules. Remorse that is another funny thing, people are often only sorry after they get caught. And only because they are faced with the punishment!
On the other hand, some people turn themselves in, because their conscience tells them to.

But as we are on the subject of punishments and if it's "lucratible" being a cheater, AND talking about real world prisons... This is something that is an issue in the real world as well.
Sentences that fit the crime. Some countries still have various forms of death-penalty, either cruel or painless.
Losing bodyparts for stealing a loaf of bread might be considered to harsh in most modern countries, but it was common in ages past.

From what I have seen here on LWM, and my personal oppinion, the sentences have been mostly good. People have a chance to mess up and repent, and if they fail to stay on the good side of the law they will be blocked. Cheating is only "lucratible" until that block occur.
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
