AuthorTsunami on the 22th July 2009?
I just got a forwarded mail which says a tsunami would strike on the 22-Jul-09. Personally, I don't believe it since it might be a hoax, but I would like to share it anyway. Apparently, on that day, there will be a sun eclipse and the gravitational pull may create a giant tsunami >_>

Anyways the mail is quoted below:
"Hello there.
I just wanted 2 let you know that please stay away from the beaches all around in the month of July. There is a prediction that there will be another tsunami hitting on July 22nd. It is also when there will be sun eclipse. Predicted that it is going 2 be really bad and
countries like Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), Singapore, Maldives, Australia, Mauritius, Si Lanka, India, Indonesia, Philippines are going 2 be badly hit. Please try and stay away from the beaches in July. Better 2
be safe than sorry. Please pass the word around. Please also pray for all beings."
Right... We're all going to die again? =)

Imo, you're right in thinking it's a hoax.
Sounds like someone who wants the beaches to be less crowded when he goes on holiday in July.

It's like when your local weatherman tells you there will be thunderstorms and rain all day tomorrow just so he can go play a round of golf all by himself when its really going to be sunny and pleasant all day.
Definitely a hoax, even if the eclipse is true...

Well Singapore and Mauritius are rather secure but Maldives better not go there ;)
Fowarding these emails is a good way for spammers to get a list of valid emails addresses...
Hmm..Isnt tzunami caused by some under-sea earthquake or vulcanic activity? Because the whole Eclipse-tzunami theory seem to me like some apocalyptic mumbo-jumbo.
Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes under the sea. Omega22 is right, eclipses couldn't possibly do anything.
Look, I've studied Physics at Padova University here in Italy. There is not ANY relation between gravitational force and reflected/unreflected light. If I walk on a sunny day or in a dark night my weight is the same, isn't it? ;-)

The Sun is too far to make tides and the moon will act as always givin us two high tides that day. Nothing elese.

The fact that we can see the moon and the sun on a line, means absolutely nothing. Any eclipse is only a beutiful natural event. Find a good place to watch it and a good pair of goggles to protect your eyes!
The point is that when sun and moon are in a line their gravity effect on the tides add up, but this won't cause a tsunami, the movement of celestial bodies is not abrupt enough to cause one. For a tsunami you need a fast movement of great masses of water, like earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under water, landslides into the sea or probably a meteor impact.
But eclipse is cool. Remember to watch the thing, full eclipse is a bit scary thing. I have seen it once, it sure could cause some religious misunderstandings in the past. :-)
Total HOAX.......

Tsunami occurs due to "Oceanic Earthquakes", which in turn are made by movement of the earthern plates' below the earth's crust. So you got the answer ;)
not true 100%, even if it would happen, in our country it would be mostly 30 cm high, because of the small see...
It may be or it may be not a HOAX.

It could probably happen if the sun gets hidden by the moon.(I don't know excactly which is who).
This causes lowering the gravity and the waves get higher and bigger.
Ignore my first message I got it wrong.
Either way, it doesn't bother me much because im far away. But who would believe in these sorts of things? No warnings have been given to the residents after all.
dont spread any news which wasnt proofed and causing fear arround
