| He is a God, Son of God or Mere Human? | | Great question 10/10 | | oh jeez dude, you'd only bring this up if you were looking for an argument.... | This is a sensitive topic and it can turns into an unnecessary and chaotic debate.
I don't think LWM is the right place to discuss this topic | | Ask the Pope! | Befor you read my post you should know, i am presbyterian, i believe in Jesus, however i will not let my beliefs influence my logic.
Jesus exisited, period. There is too much evidence too say he did not exist. People from his time wrote works about how he taught and proclaimed himself as the son of God. There are thousands of pages of script coming form outside the bible, only an ignorant fool would ay he does not exist. (note i am typing this after 2, if anyone posts befor i am done typing, i am not insulting them.)
Next, these works say that he proclaimed himself as the son of God, he claimed to raise the dead and heal the sick and dying. This means he was not a normal person, impossible. If someone goes around proclaiming that they are the son of God then they are one of three things:
1. The great and Holy son of God
2. A raving mad man
3. A demon
This is expresses in one of C.S Lewis' (great christian author) quotes:
A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.--C.S. Lewis
So the argument is narrowed down to whther he was a God, son of God or the Devil.
I think we can rule out that he is God. If we was a God, we would assume that he is the God who wrote the 10 commmandments and created the heavens and the earth. God does not lie, God proclaiming he had a father would be a lie. Point made.
So the argument is wittled down to, "Demon, madman or Son of God"
As C.S Lewis said, this is up for you to decide, read both sides of the argument. Come to your own decision, just make sure you don't decide based on the fact thatthe "son of God" bit seems inpossible. Part of the point of God is that he is above humans, he can do things we can't.
