Which would be better?
2 ATTACK or Basic Offense?
2 DEFENSE or Basic Defense?
How/Why? (For example, if Basic Off/Def is only better when the other stacks' Def/Att is higher, then say that :) ) |
Basic Defense. it gives 5% of Def more |
It depends on your parameters. I've got a lot of attack - so I usually go with basic attack cause the percentages add more there |
I would say basic offense or defense. They give the same protection, but they also give acess to battle fury, vitality and other talents. Also with Basic Defense and offense, you can switch them around whenever you want for free, with stats you must pay 3k for Potion of oblivion |
if your attack > enemy defense, then basic offense is better, if your attack < enemy defense, then 2 attack is better. Same thing for defense.
Since in this game, in most cases your attack is greater than enemy's defense (except pvp), therefore basic offense is usually the best choice |
Between Basic offense and 2 attack alone, 2 attack is better because Basic offense only affects meelee strikes. |
But if you had 10 attack, then basic offense would be better than 2 more attack.. (without taking melee or not into consideration) |
for Xerfer:
Increasing 2 points of attack increases your damage by about 10% (5% each point) as longg as your attack is more than your opponent's def
Basic Offence increases your damage by 10%.
So they are about the same. |
So they are about the same.
not really the same, the 10% damage bonus got from attack is actually 10% of basic damage a stack of creature could deal. So no matter how much attack you have, 1 attack will give you a certain amount of increase.
but the 10% damage bonus from offense has taken account of the attack/def bonus, so the more attack you have, the more damage bonus you will receive. |

Unfortunately, no. The bonuses are multiplicative, and multiplication, as I've said before, is commutative. Whether the 10% is applied to basic damage of the creatures first, or applied after attack/defense is taken into account, you'd get the same result. |

On the contrary, since your attack is usually greater than enemy's defense, then +2 attack is much better than basic offense, since that's an equivalence of +10% bonus to both melee and range damage.
It's only when your attack is much less than enemy's defense that +2 attack doesn't translate to 10% bonus. Even so, since the bonus is applied to both range and melee, +2 attack might still be the better choice.
Generally, the only reason you should ever pick basic offense over +2 attack (from erudition, for example) is if you need a talent that requires basic offense. |
Nothing is better or worse!
It all have advantages and disadvantages...
It's up to you to choose which suits you the best:) |

Sprites deal 109 damage to Spawns. 4 perish.
Here 30 sprites (damage)have 21 attack, basic offense and spawns have 8 defense.
The damage dealt is: 2*30*(1+0.05*13)*1.1=108.9,almost 109. where the factor 1.1 is taken account of the basic offense.
But if its as you said that +2 attack would be the same, then the damage would be: 2*30*(1+0.05*15)=105, which is 4 points less than 109.
See the difference? |
+2 attack, if your attack < enemy's defence
basic offence, if your hero's attack is > 18
DE should use basic offence (and therefore, hero should have at least 19 attack) otherwise dont bother playing a might built DE. |
Why?
+2 attack is additive.
Offence talent, cold blade and 7% melee modifier of ruby sword are multipliers.
Ironically, multipliers work better when attack is high... but attack 19 is the threshold where attack is high enought for multipliers.
The trick is:
Use mutipliers if multiplier modifier*attack > attack addition |
The trick is:
Use mutipliers if multiplier modifier*attack > attack addition AND your attacker's attack > enemy's defence.
