Today we remember and honour our Soviet allies who fought in WW2. 16.6 million soviet soldiers died during that war. I remember going to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow many times while i was living there - it never failed to touch me deeply.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there too :) |

This is not a debate about who won the war. All history books are subjective - according to UK history books, Winston Churchill was the hero of the hour :D I'm sure it's the same in every country - history is coloured by politics and patriotism.
Today is to commemorate the massive contribution of the former USSR which resulted in the loss of 16 million lives. Gratitudes to them! |

That was the Pacific theatre my friend, today we pay tribute to the sacrifice of the Soviets in the War of Europe, who suffered the heaviest casualties but still endured hardships on the Eastern Front trying to preserve the freedom of the world.
We will remember and honour. |
Congratulations for your national day, but let’s not fool our self and say this is an international day for the end of ww2, in my country ww2 ended the earlier this month.
And to give thanks seems a bit weird, of course I acknowledge the Soviets big part in Germanys defeat (maybe the biggest part) but it was not motivated by a will to save the rest of the world, it was a self preservation motivation.
To start with you can read this link about Soviet-German relations before Europe got too small for these power hungry empires

We can long discuss and condemn someone, but the victory was also many people over it have tried!
Laitha thanks you, respect for you;) |
