I've changed from wiz to necro, and began to do thieving... Well, after many loss, I happened to have a decent win ration. I had the awfully bad luck to level up while I had about 30 successful ambushes (and lvl 0 TG).

So, now, I have apparitions that are really great, but I'm experimenting the "reset" of caravans difficulty. Most of the time, against barb, I have about 16 cyclops, that kill any of my stacks in one shot (thanks to barb hero's incredible strenght... +25 atk, +15% ini O.O), magic heroes kill any stack with 2 spells, got more than 100 mana, and still have crazy amount of creatures... So, am I bound to loose maybe 100 times to 150 times to be able to win a mere 20 caravans, get to TG lvl 1, then undergo another reset, and loose against 100 times to begin to have a decent win ratio?? Is it for this that some think about saving 1 million?? Do thieves find it really funny to do, or are just the ones who never tried it to believe it's that great? Or maybe I am just an old grumpy undead that is totally a has been that don't know what's fun to young and brave knights / elves / ...?

I mean, I don't mind about loosing, I already have a lot of defeats due to faction change, but I really feel the reset is just here for the sake of bothering players by setting up impossible caravans.
no one ever said caravans are easy.
But they are the only thing in this entire game that get weaker when you lose from them.
and there is no "reset" when you level up.
Each time you level up all caravans get stronger by xx%
They give wonderful fsp and faction resistance works against caravans too :)
and thieving untill thiefguild lvl 3 is easy
just make sure you have some arts
Also, difficulty doesnt change at all with leveling up thieves guild.
IMHO necro are the worst for thiefing. Other faction are easier.
The only good thing about thieving is initiative which u can't get any other way. It's very important (for fast damage dilling factions more then others) as improve chance to move first and more, and it's critical difference then battles someone in fullarts whit TG 0 and TG 4-5.

PS No no no, against caravans necro is one of the best
ur necro faction level also make it very hard for you to win the ambush :p
Well, thieving is the ONLY battle against NPC which you can continously do and do again as it decreases in difficulty as well.
hmm....maybe nec isn't good at thiefing ?
I think some of you miss the point; could be also because some have 0 TG points I believe :P

This topic is not about any potential reward of TG, but about how frustrating it could be to loose XX(X) times before to BEGIN to have a decent win ratio.

Well, yeah, that's not the same, but I feel it's very similar. Even with what seems to be one of the best necro upgrade, caravan's difficulty increase way more than the potential power gained through level up.

If not for full set, all I have to do is to sit back deep in my chair and hear the scream of my vamps / noise of broken bones of undead :( It's just impossible in min AP before a lot of defeats, and with more AP it's just a waste of the so precious gold. Then, all I could say is "woh, cool, 1 hour to wait before to get crushed again and wait one more hour".

In my view, some caravans are just absurd, such as necro that raise it's countless stacks again and again until you're dead.

Also, difficulty doesnt change at all with leveling up thieves guild.

One of your problems is low faction level
U can do better with wizard i guess

well, in the old days 99% of the people could easily reach TG within 14 days

Here, I've been away for 4 months. I also regularly switch necro / wiz (for doing GB or hunt records...), and only thieve as necro, cause I really don't need fsp from wiz. I didn't thought I had to justify any absence or lack of results, as I used to do when I was in school lol.
If you imply I'm a poor thieve, all I could say is that I don't know what is the frontier beetween good and bad when you start with faction level 0... Not to mention that thieves reached TG 2 in 14 days using full arts.

I feel some sarcastic thought. I've been playing magic necro until very few days wich means several months; when reaching lvl 10, I felt like trying might build for the very first time (except with alt...).
@Slust:
Your are using one of the most fsp dependant faction of the game with low fsp.
You are using min ap.
This means you are choosing one of the hardest route to do it. Don't expect any cheese.

As for a tip (maybe a bad one), i would try basic nature to get summon phantom spell. I had good results with it at lvl 12 with low fsp.
I would avoid vitality until faction level 5-6, since you really don't have enought skellies to make it worth it before that.
I was trying expert erudition; it seems to be the best suitable set of talents. In any case, this is just in case, I'm not used to play might. Still, vitality and advanced defense are IMO the most suitable for a few fights (monster quests mainly; it's better than expert defense IMO or erudition). Phantom? Hum, I could have a try against barb or necro, though most of the time, I like raising liches again and again to keep magic attacks away from vamp / appa...
In any case, this is just in case, I'm not used to play might.
I mean... I'm testing talents as might player. Anyway, thanks for the tip (sorry for double post).
don't give up hope if you only loose enough there will come the point when your ratio will be back to normal and as your faction lvl starts to grow continuosly this will be sooner than later.

I also do thieving in min ap, but when I started back then in lvl 8 i used max arts also shortly before change of game mechanics i wanted to reach lvl 4 for second invitation, so i used max arts again. Afterwards I had to loose around 400 battles in min ap before i reached the bottom again.

Now after lvl up to 12 difficulty increased again, but win ratio is still much higher then in the old bad days. :-)
