thx and regards

kingpius
my lsat Caravan of necromancers include 568 skeleton bows covered with zombies, please take care of these as i need to w8 another hour to fight another one, plz give me a challenging enemy not an immpossible one :)
your win/lose ration is not bad at all. some caravans are impossible in minAP, some are pretty doable after a few losses.
i viewed your battle with 21 cyclopes in TG (by the way, MG had 20 cyclopes, and didn't see 23 anywhere), you should blocked them right away with shrew, but you had only large stack which got killed pretty soon = no chances.
remember, besides blocking, you also can delay the enemy troops and to destroy their defence.

wear more arts and master your tactics if you don't want to wait another hour
Yep, thieves get uneven caravans sometimes, or mostly, and there are nothing to be fix. Do not expect to win every single ambush of yours.

Each type of caravan also gets harder/easier if you win/lose the previous time.
Thx a lot Dalek and Straws for giving insight to the problems :)

to Dalek : even if i blocked 20 cyclops, still i dont think i can kill them on 16 att 13 def 1 luck 4 morale. this was my stats on both fights
for kingpius:
if you block them during you first turn with 1 shrew, they have to kill it on their first turn (not 18 shrews, too far to reach by foot and no way to shoot because of 1 shrew). then you have at least two more times to attack with your main stack of schrews, plus others. meanwhile, you can delay the cyclops with a hero (making more room for your attacks) and/or destroy the defence, so your troops can deal more damage per each attack.
thx Dalek :)

good advice, i will try the same in my future battles. thx again for u r advice, bro

also, i cant reach them in my first turn as they were covered with orcs whom i cant kill with 1 shrew, and with 1 attack, they kill 18 shrews or 7 liz :(( too hard i think bro :(
for kingpius:
you welcome :)

since you don't have spell power, it's better for you to use disruption ray (destroys defence by -3), because delay would be weak and short (about -20% of initiative for 0.5 turn; the power is from dark magic (in the talents), the duration is from spell power).
but you are so called battle DE, i.e. don't have magic power and don't have magical talents. that's all right to be focused on attack, your disruption ray will still work.

later on when you get dark witches (11th lvl i believe), it'll be much more handy to delay/destroy your enemies with their aid :)
for kingpius:
And you thought it will be easy? Our managers sick people - have made such caravans which not really to kill. It to spit on players.
Being a thief implies that you will loose a LOT of times. Get used to it, there's nothing you could do about this.
thanks a lot guys for u r responses :)
for Slust:
Yes! But and where pleasure from such game? At me on 5 victories, 22 defeats to caravans. It is normal? No, it is a masochism. And we here for this purpose what to play and receive pleasure from game
I apologize for bad English
for Margorita:
One solution is wear enchanted full arts. With that and good tactics you can reach TG5 while keeping a good win ratio.
for Pantheon:
I go to fight in a minimum ( 8-10AP). And your offer isn't economic. Expenses won't justify

Did I say it was funny?

No, I didn't. Maybe others? Some did, probably, but I've never heard enthusiastic comments from thief members. Bad ones, I've red a few ones; see Kotrin's first post:

I would even add by now with some more experience as a thief, that it's pretty borring to face again and again the same types of caravan (yeah, great, instead of a square of 3 monks and 150 recruits in mid, maybe you'll face 2 less monks but 50 recruits more next time...Great! In hunts at least, there's much more variety, and you can adapt your strategy to the opponent, here, you got no clue, so there's really few differences of set up beetween caravans; could differ slightly according to the faction of the opponent though...). Not to say that you regularly have to wait 20 or more to get an ambush...
Still, players dream about thieving. Well, if you want to spend 1M3 gold for it, then feel free to do so.

Anyway, if you're asking me why I'm mostly only doing ambushes by now (wich is most likely to happen :P), it's because my merc quests are for most impossible in min AP with poor necro faction level by now, and hunts are pretty tough (but doable though). A future problem of non thieve members, will be the concern of impossible fights of high level players. But, as now there are very few thieves, even lvl 10 or so, you guys will have this problem sooner than older high level thieves. That's the only thing good with thieving, I believe. Is it worth it? I doubt of it; you could do more GB instead; in min AP, it's not very well balanced (less than thieving? ^^), but fsp ratio is not really bad.

I didn't say it was economically sound. But that's what I did and I reached TG5 by level 11 like that. I started off with less enchants and increased the enchants as the caravans got more difficult.

The choice is yours to make. It is the same for other combats, pvp, hunts, merc quests. More arts => higher chance of winning.
If you wear min arts, just realize it's your fault for choosing to lose.

I agree with you. By the time I reached level 11 at TG5, my caravans were super hard along with my hunts and merc quests. That's when I switched to min arts and took a year of losses.

I have to say that high TG does offer some nice advantages. When fighting against other players who have low TG, I have a nice edge there even when they have high faction level or more arts.
Topic moved from "Queries and help" to "General game forum".
I started thieving at level 7 and ambushing (against caravans, NOT players) is 1 of my favorite type of battles --> it's just about the only type of battle where I don't know who my enemy is, so I can't really plan before the battle, and have to plan and adjust my tactics DURING the fight itself. It's so much more challenging.

I don't get all these topics about how hard caravans are. In all types of battles here (hunts, quests, etc), your chance to win increases when you wear more art, and decreases when you wear min art. So why should thieving be different?

I remember the days when TGIs can be rented... BUT have to be returned in 30(?) days, or risk a fine/block. We were FORCED by the rules to win as many ambushes as we can, in the shortest time possible. Most of us had no choice but to wear full arts. Those (very few, as I recalled) who we can afford it even wear enchanted arts. Most of us, wearing reasonable good arts, and with reasonable tactics, managed to win a high percentage of our ambushes.

I don't see why it's any different now. It can still be done since as far as I know, caravans have not increased in strength.

So I really can't understand why player choose to wear min arts for ambushing.. AND expect to win a high percentage of them. It just ain't gonna happen.

As for kingpius, keep the faith. Like everything else, the more experience you gain from thieving, the better you'll be at handling the caravans. :)
for Jedi-Knight:
Well said! I still use my example of 47 consecutive caravan wins for how arts + tactics could lead to good win ratio. Back then I even did those as a knight, which is generally agreed as one of the hardest faction to thief with.
This topic is long since last update and considered obsolete for further discussions.
