| i've noticed it many times , xbows are quite good at sweeping enemies by melee attack aswell. they are excellent shooters but no bad at melee... is it a bug that in their description no melee penalty isnt given. |
| They have melee penalty. In big numbers they deal big damages, even in melee. |

Dat's very possible because xbows deal some of the highest damage in the game. Especially with holy spells like bless/chastise xbows can be just as dangerous in melee as in ranged attacks. |

Which makes it perfectly possible for 14 of them to be taken out by 33 xbows. Maybe you should take your own advise about the doctor thing. |

X-bows deal 2-8 damage. In melee they deal 1-4 damage because of melee penalty (average 2.5 damage per x-bow).
18 attack vs 10 defense = +40% damage
Average damage = 2.5*1.4 = 3.5 per X-bow (minimum 1.4, maximum 5.6)
33 X-bows deal 33*3.5 = 115.5 damage (minimum 46.2, maximum 184.8)
14 Wolf Raiders have 168 HP, assuming at full HP.
So the result was above average, but well within the capacity of the crossbows to achieve.

Heh. I did notice *afterwards* that it was only Hero stats that were mentioned.
But as Omega22 noted it only makes the damage dealt more in favour of the X-bows.
As the defender had Wolf Raiders (Barb) it is likely that the talents of the defender were oriented towards offense. As the attacker was a Knight, it is likely that the talents were oriented towards defense/morale/magic.
Still, as Omega22 notes, it would be helpful to have a link to the battle.

It is also interesting to note that the damage dealt by x-bows at long range is similar to what they would deal in melee combat.
After all, the penalty for long range is essentially the same as the melee penalty.
So if you had been expierencing pain from the X-bows at range, it usually doesn;t get much better simply because they attack you in melee.

| While most posters here focus on the high melee damage (which is the same as out of range ranged), take note that xbows do more damage within range 4-6 at the rate of 2x damage and if range is 2-3, then it becomes much higher with aim shot. Many seem to think knights are purely defensive, but xbows have high damage output; so high that even with melee penalty it still seems high. |
tnx guys my doubt is cleared.....
after seeing all this i wish i'd been a knight instead of barb.......!! i defeated each n every knight before lv.8 but now it jus seems to be impossible cuz xbows wid luck are terrible. i wud 've changed my faction bt i will lose in that case too since i will have very less troops due to 0 faction level.

| stick to barb. its greast from level 10 onwards. just dont duel knights till level 10 thats all. teir overpowered level 8-9 |

Well, with faction resist, then your future battles against knights would be easier (assuming you are fighting as a different faction).
If you have a few knight levels and you fight against them as a barb, then you would take reduced damage of 3% per knight level you have. |
3-6 % isnt enough 2 spend that amount of gold in constructions n then training wid lv.0 knight wud mean more defeats n also loss in barb fsp...
i wanna change permanently but i need suggestions wether its worth it or not ... as mega0impact said i shud continue with barb but i need more opinions.. |
