Author | help in understanding players English |
Hi everyone!
I was just reading the posts from
https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1893421
(of course, what's left of them :D) and I have a question:
What does it mean "son of beach"? I know what means son (male child) and I know what means beach (that more or less sandy region at the sea shore). But I cannot understand the combination. In addition, how can that be considered foul language?
Can anyone help me here? I am totally stuck in understanding that language and that penalty reason. [Player banned by moderator Arctic until 2010-12-01 00:17:30 // Warning. Stop toying around. You know better than we do what the reason for that ban was, if you created such an acrimonious t |

This is what I found. |

i think it's new rules on forum?
we cannot mention the word 'beach' or you will be banned |
Son of beach is using the word beach as it sort of rhymes with the term for a female dog. if you wrote son of a female dog but used the real term not "female dog" it would be an insult. Masked insults are insults. |
So, if I say "tic-tic", it's a masked insult because it's rhyming with a swear? Interesting point of view.
Also, beach is rhyming with rich, for example. Son of a rich person is not an insult, as far as I know.
Hmm... I should really think twice before writing anything to anyone! Who knows, maybe I will get a penalty for masked insults even from my posts...? |
Hiya,
Please refer to the last post of this thread - https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1893438
I'm .... asking all the participants to wait a while and see for themselves how the situation will be resolved in the nearest future.
I do ask all players reading this thread/post and this or that way being interested in this situation to stay away from any public discussions of the case since:
"4. Questions concerning closed affairs, requests and other attempts to contact the Administration are made with the help of Secretary. Violation of this rule is penalized by at least 24 hour ban".
As implied, the matter is already been looked into, so kindly refrain from making unnecessary remarks that will inflame the whole situation again. Thanks. |
Lol. We all know what it means CGS :P
As for the matter here, check thread:

1st post was deleted because it quoted cursing so the keeper most probably mistakenly thought guydeguy was complaining about Lukasz24 (who was his opponent, so it makes sense). So it seems like it's just a misunderstanding, I thought the same as you at first sight. |

for CGSMCMLXXV:
Learn by example.
Fish is son of beach.
Luckasz24 is son of dry land... |

You see, JK, when I opened this thread, I didn't think to make a complain or anything like that. I just opened a discussion thread about what is and what is not considered foul language. For me, "son of beach" means just stupidity from the player who said it if he really knows English, otherwise, I would give him a link to an English dictionary for him to understand what he wrote. So, why that should be considered foul language?
Moreover, if I wanted to make a complain out of that, I would have started with the question why Luckasz got the penalty? But, I started differently. (Not that I don't agree with the Polish players) As far as I know 2 different subjects cannot be considered as 1 topic. That is also valid for Barbarian-Fishy whose post was deleted, but I managed to read partly what he wrote.
Concluding, can anyone consider himself insulted by the expression "son of beach"? I would be only amused by such a say and, sincerely, I would hardly stop myself not to mock the person who used it. I am not an expert in English, but I know at least the difference in between a sandy region at the seashore and a female dog. Do you agree with me here? |
And by the way, should I feel myself offended when a player called me "sun of the beach"? I have the mail if you want to have fun. :D |
There is a relatively popular movie called stripes. A bit old school for some of the youngsters here. That movie has a quote where the only English a guy knows is "son of beach" (due to his accent that's how it sounds), followed by another swear word. For a while there instead of saying "son of a ....." you would say "son of beach".
The only reason you'd say "son of beach" is as an insult. No question that is the intent. It may be in a joking kind of way as some people do, but it is definately an insult as it is well understood what it is meant to mean. |
female dog
What is with all this non-sense of hiding behind one's fingers??? What the heck is this female dog, never heard of it!
The word is 'bitch', is 'whore', is 'prostitute', etc... All these words part of the official English dictionary, and just by saying the word is not an insult, is not a swearing, is not profanity is not foul language, as long as you don't mean it as such!
It becomes an insult when you address it to someone, or when you use it in a swearing context.
Up until then, is part of the official English language, and there is no profanity to quote words from the official English dictionary, when they are not given swearing/insulting meaning. |

If I had felt the thread was inappropriate, I would have closed it already. :)
As long as the topic/posts are non-inflammatory, not against forums rules, and generally constructive and value-added in nature, it should be fine.
As for the deletion of Barbarian-Fishy's post, it was done upon his request. :) |
well understood what it is meant to mean
Sure...
This is just like the long string violation from a couple months back.

There are a lot of movies with jokes about the British-American misunderstandings due to the pronunciation, accent and even English grammar. And even I experienced some funny situations with British persons speaking with Americans. But every bit of those misunderstandings amused everyone and not offended. That is my point here.
