Author | Prize for reporting cheaters? |
16. Game Administration is not an instrument of vengence to your offender. Characters caught creating topics like "I think there’s something wrong here – check him!" to retaliate at someone will be banned.
I do believe that the much talked-about 'vengeance clause' has been misinterpreted by some members. Whether any admins or members of official clans have done so or not, I can't really say since I have not personally come across such an incident.
If we read that rule carefully, it's actually there to prevent the C&A section from being flooded with complains that are not backed up with proof, and being filled with 'ABC has broken the rules, check him' type of threads.
There should be no punishment whatsoever for anyone who file a LEGITIMATE complain against a cheater, substantiated with proof (transfer logs etc). As long as the complain is legit, any 'bad blood' between the complainant and the person being complained against, is irrelevant, and the complainant should not be punished. | I do believe that the much talked-about 'vengeance clause' has been misinterpreted by some members. Indeed. A crime is a crime and it is outrageous to be penalized for reporting a cheater. Do they think we just choose random players to look into? These reports mainly come from some sort of interaction between reporter and reported. I think it is just used as an excuse to cover bans that should not have been given in the first place. If I lose a fight that's OK but it isn't OK to lose to a cheater and I make darn sure that never happens to me without correcting the problem. Vengeance? Yeah, vengeance by annoyed people who don't feel like doing their job. | There should be no punishment whatsoever for anyone who file a LEGITIMATE complain against a cheater, substantiated with proof (transfer logs etc).
There is be "is no" instead of "should be no". Sadly, we have experienced just "should be no" until now.. | There *SHOULD* be "is no" instead of "should be no". Sadly, we have experienced just "should be no" until now..
*Tied my own tongue* | Cain or Judas that is the question | @22. I am glad we can agree on something. "A crime is a crime". I think getting bans for reporting a cheater is generally wrong, but if that post or a follow up post is done in an inappropriate, insulting fashion and/or breaching other forum rules unrelated to the vegeance clause, it is still a breach of the rules and deserving of a ban. Two wrongs don't make a right.
No matter how much an admin messes up, if and when they do, the forum is not the way to deal with it. It's very unprofessional. It's been done before and at least some of us remember how poorly that was done, and the damage that did to the image of the whole admin and mod team. |

Uh, that's what happens when nobody is reading mail you send to secretary. You think people will keep taking crap with no way to defend themselves? Not this guy.
The admins and mods did their own damage by their actions or lack of action. Fact. | that's what happens when nobody is reading mail you send to secretary
I won't give out any details, but Secretary's bedtime reading is caught up and up-to-date. | @27. Lack of action is better than poor action. When the pages and pages of C&A reports was gone over and it seemed reporters were getting as many bans as the people they were reporting, I was quite surprised. It was done in a quick way with a lack of thought over the consequences. It once again made the .com people think poorly of the admin team.
As I was a mod at the time, anyone using the forum to complain about an admins actions, or opening a new thread to discuss a closed thread, or whatever, had to be banned, and told "mail the secretary", even if I though the original ban was wrong.
Any complaint about a mod or moderating in general should be done in house. Not in a huge thread allowed everyone to get a free hit on the mod, and at the same time reminding everyone that admin had been absent for agres and allowed this to happen. IF the mod was such a problem, they shouldn't have been allowed to mod for 2 years.
I can see some people maybe thinking this is a bit ironic, as I am talking about admin decisions here. As I'm no longer a mod as I chose to stay in my clan and not reapply, I don't feel obliged to tow the party line, and this thread has already covered admin decisions and not been closed down. | I'm no longer a mod
Key words ^^.
This is what is wrong with the whole system. Complete strangers are picked to control what we post and it is laughable to even think there couldn't be a wrong choice for a mod.
Where I live, the police all stick together and the citizen's know it is almost impossible for one to side against another, no matter what the situation.
Same thing with mods of the past in most cases. It becomes " us vs the community." Maybe this is never spoken aloud but that is how it ends up far too many times.
When someone makes a crazy accusation against a mod, the players usually shout them down in the forum. NOTHING wrong with exposing out of control mods if you tried to fix things but were rejected and even told you were paranoid.
I have and will continue to take the heat when I run into these problems and they are not dealt with.
I was told how wrong I was in the past by the powers that be but it turns out I was right, so I won't listen to any more nonsense and I will go with my gut when I see something wrong.
You don't grow angelic wings when you become a mod or work in another area for Empire.
It's up to Empire to restore our faith in them. It doesn't happen overnight and they are to blame for the community feeling the way they do. | [Post deleted by moderator Kiz // ] | Hmm, I think the original poster has misunderstood the original meaning of the this page: https://www.lordswm.com/help.php?section=2
In fact, the title of the page is misleading. There is no prize for reporting cheaters. But a prize for uncovering a loophole in the game rules which could be exploited to "legally", but unfairly enrich themselves. This has been corrected pointed out by plzdunhurtme in post#19.
As for the vengeance clause, I think Jedi-Knight has expressed the original intention of the rule in post#21. Also, this has actually nothing to do with the topic as per post#1.
To avoid misleading the community of the "promised" gold pot for reporting cheaters, I am going to lock the topic. | closed by Kiz (2010-12-09 06:13:02) |
