A clan is just common-minded people that gather together for common supoprt and has no in-game benefits.
Military clans (improved clans) are clans that are focused to serve the Empire and have in-game effects (Ambush avoidance, etc) and events have special things for members of such clans
As for Mana. You get 10 mana per knowledge point you have. Thus 1 Knowledge gets you a max of 10 mana and 3 knowledge gets you 30 mana max, etc |

You have enough mana to cast the spell once. You can cast it only on a damaged or dead stack (of your own troop). If something is standing over your dead stack (e.g. gargoyles standing over your "dead" ghosts in your last group battle), you cannot raise it. |
| Special units like imps and spawns drink your mana, so it will be hard for you to cast a spell. Try to increase Knowledge to have more mana. |
if you dont like imps or spawns to drink your mana...Take some mana recovery.
