AuthorWhen posting a lot on the market
After you select an item you need to put in how many pieces of that item to post on that lot. But even if you have only 1 item you still need to put it in as 1. Why not to make that if there is only 1 item of that kind so it will go automatic number '1' in that field (like closed option/field)?
-1. It only takes 2 seconds or so to put it in.

Because then people would forget to enter that field and complain that they accidentally sold 1 ore instead of 50.

It's blank so that if people forgot to fill the field, the post won't happen, same reasoning as why there's a "Do not transfer" option by default in gold/resource/art transfer.

+1, definitely.

The default value should be the most often used value.
And value 1 is the most often used value.
Moreover, value 0 is never used.

It was already suggested some time ago:

Even 2 sec takes some redundant time, you really feel that after you do that more 10000 times.
Because then people would forget to enter that field and complain that they accidentally sold 1 ore instead of 50.

And where is the problem here?
Let's say I want to sell 50 ore, but I put 1 instead of 50. It's no problem at all, because next time I can sell the rest 49 (the gold I get is PER UNIT, not per whole stack).

It's blank so that if people forgot to fill the field, the post won't happen, same reasoning as why there's a "Do not transfer" option by default in gold/resource/art transfer.
That's why default value for gold must be 0 (as it is now), but he is asking not about gold value, he is asking about the AMOUNT, which by default is 0 and should be 1.
(you can't sell anything if there is still 0 gold specified)

Then if people accidentally choose to sell, say, a TGI and haven't looked very carefully at the fields it won't be sold.

Apparently it does happen, considering the complaints we have had from people doing exactly that.

Not selling is probably better. It means no monetary penalty for rebuying your own item and you still have Market spaces to sell stuff. All it costs you is less than a minute of time.

Again, it's NOT about gold value, which has default value 0 and thus you can't sell anything at gold 0.

It's about AMOUNT!

Even for TGI the amount would be 1, not 0 :)

Making amount 0 DOES NOT prevent from anything!
The only thing it does is always making you to do the redundant work (every time changing 0 to 1 or sometimes other number).

Actually amount 0 is more dangerous than amount 1, because:
- you have to change not only the amount, but also the gold and sometimes you can mix them up (actually I do that many times)
- if you had to change only one number (gold) then it would much easier to avoid accidental selling something for 1 gold
Because then people would forget to enter that field and complain that they accidentally sold 1 ore instead of 50.

But I'm agreeing on both sides in this discussion.

Yes, misclicks do happen, so indeed there should be a step to allow people to double-check their lot. But right now there are three of those moments:

- "Post"
- "Verified, let's post!"
- "Are you sure? This lot cannot be canceled!" (this one annoys me, because I already confirmed that I verified it...)

Having the default amount at 0 as a fourth safety mechanism is perhaps a bit too much...

And let's be honest: selling expensive arts or TGIs without paying enough attention isn't wise in the first place. If people post a wrong lot by accident after clicking "Post", "Verified, let's post!" and "Are you sure? This lot cannot be canceled!"... well, they probably should blame themselves, not the system..
On second thought..

If you want to sell 50 ore, keeping it at 0 would actually save time, because you don't have to delete the 1 to put in 50 (050 = 50).

And, personally, I don't put in 1 that much (usually 3).

Hmmm... I guess in the end I tend to -1 instead of +1.. lol

Saving time by dropping one of the two "are you sure" pop-ups is maybe a better idea then, but offtopic in this thread...
