He ambushed you, from level 6 you can join thief's guild(paying 80dimonds or buying an Thief Guild Invitation for around 1,000,000gold) to ambush players or caravans(you can't choose which you will ambush).
And from level 6 you can be ambushed by players while travelling from 1 location to other. |

Nope; It has always been level 6 requirement. |
Currently, it is still a lvl 6 requirement, but lvl 5 might come in the future.
Anyway, it is an ambush, as already said.
