no buildings at all -> i can NOT ambush
dark elf:
no mg3 / dark witches / minotaur soldiers / lizard assailants / citadel -> i can NOT ambush
i thought only fortress and citadel were needed. But apparantly you can ambush without a citadel (or only today?) and you need more than only the fortress
so maybe all unupgraded creatures are needed, but that is not true either. because i can ambush without cavalry and without death envoys |

So at level 12 you can fight without a citadel, but at level 13 not anymore?
and if you need all basic buildings except for the one at your level and one blow
then why i cant ambush with elf and dark elf where i only miss treefolk/dark witches ? Since Presence of the upgrades unessentially |
| treefolk/dark witches is lvl 11 troops. As you don't have them, you got lvl 10 army. 12-10=2 (> 1) |

then this should be a lev10 army as well, since I do not have cavalry/death envoys. |
As I dig this problem on .ru forum more deeper, I've found one more condition: greatest possible army HP regarding unrecruited army HP must not be lower than certain value.
So, you can try to use Rally for DE, and Brethen Commander to E. Maybe then you can perform ambushing. |

well, even 1.3M is not enough to build "everything"
a full castle at lev12 is around 600k
so i was just figuring out what to do next. Try barbarian or wait for dwarves because they have to arrive eventually with their small legs.
And I also hoped a bit we would have had a lottery with our anniversary so i could buy a lot of tickets ^_^
