Recruits are totally useless if you compare them to the rest troops, some factions have better tier 1 in some levels, Knights do not. So, if you buy recruits then it will be for a small boost of your rest troops (I guess in level 5 that I got recruits it was no more than +3 to bowmen, +1 swords). If you buy them you should consider that they'll never be of any use in fights and consider the building as a troop booster.
(Personal opinion as always, I'm talking of experience, for a long time I was playing with recruits instead of bowmen to see if in average they were better, the only thing they had better is that the enemy didn't focus on me -if I had bowmen they focused on them first- AHAHAH :D) |

| You should definitely buy recruits unless you are planning to quit soon. Recruits boosts your other troops more as your knight faction level goes up. |
