it works this way
consider a spell that gives 100 damage
first the aura of MP is 30%
so the damage done is 100-30 i.e 70
then the magic resistance adds
20% of 70 i.e 14 which is subtracted from 70
so the actual damage done will be 56
n therefore 44% is your resistance :) |

I think yes, because some spells like confusion, delay and curse works better on another units, like anchorites, while unicorns suffer less with that spells.
But some spells like weakness have 100% efficiency against unicorns.

it duration is reduced & the effect it does is also reduced
