Author | All about Creature Special Abilities (and counter-tactics). |
Ok i started this thread as I have seen a few threads now which could be included under this "umbrella" topic.
The purpose is to discuss creatures special abilities and tactics/skills/arts used to counter them.
Hopefully we can all learn some new tips/strategies and it can provide some help to new players. |
So first of all.
What is the best way to fight creatures with lava shield? (Fire/magma dragons/efreeti).
Obviously shooting them is best but what about for factions which don't have powerful shooters? |
They gonna have to suffer the shield damage :P
Or you can use invokers and indirectly deal damage to them. |
Dive from royal Griff can help too |
The most obvious solution would be to deal with them with the help of magic.
Not to mention that dwarfs can attack them with their own dragons and receive 0 shield damage in return. |
Those who don't have powerful shooters can use chaos.
Dive from royal Griff can help too
And finally, fire armor enchants could reduce the damage by far, but if you're wearing enchants for such hunt, it means you are going for a toughie one, so ... in the long run you'd still get quite much damage in melee. |
there are several creatures that are immune to elements.
Also magic resistance, fire resistance and antimagic spell are all ways to reduce or stop the shield effectiveness. All in all, it comes down to planning ahead, imho. |
The problem is that this ability does a fixed % of damage in proportion to the damage inflicted. ie: The harder you hit them in melee the more damage your stack takes in return. So protection would be helpful.
There is probably a formula that could help you select appropriate arts/skills. I just did a fight a against an Efreeti Monster (1) earlier. I won but it was a bit painful. ;)
Thanks for the answers guys.. |
Well in fact i am wrong based on my last battle.
The description for "lava shield" is incorrect(or the effect is wrong).
https://www.lordswm.com/army_info.php?name=efreetisultan
The "lava shield' does not do damage in proportion to the "damage taken" but rather in proportion to the "hit points remaining" of the Efreeti sultan stack.

Yet here against an Efreeti Monster(1) the effect seems to work as described.

how to go against dwarfs fu
they keep knocking + rapid + rune
my chance never comes it keep atking again and again
how to get rid of it?
even if we stand in corner we will do return atk once but still delay will be there |
The "lava shield' does not do damage in proportion to the "damage taken" but rather in proportion to the "hit points remaining" of the Efreeti sultan stack.
I have the same impression, I don't remember how it's like on Heroes V
But it's makes sence, I mean all units if you want do something (like cleaning and this stuff) must have a decent amount of units, with only 1 you can't clean anything casted with decent SP.
So by the logic, if you want to have full effect of lava shield, must have decent hit points to take the damage, and reflect back. |
For great Barb.
I haven't played as a barbarian but I am playing as a dwarf. The "bears" and their special ability are the key for dwarves to win. I have won a few ambushes that I thought were lost thanks to the bears. ;)
Basically you have to crowd them so they can't move (or can't move far), so that their ability is less likely to trigger.
You might get better tactics/strategies in the Barbarian Faction thread. |
elf tree will greatly counter bears~ once entangle, trigger chance=0% |
for great barb:
dwarf bears are a huge pain, maybe shoot them first with orcs and cyclops and finish with rocs? |

These can be helpful. |
The "lava shield' does not do damage in proportion to the "damage taken" but rather in proportion to the "hit points remaining" of the Efreeti sultan stack.
The description of the ability is perfectly accurate. Lave shield does damage in proportion to the "damage taken", not to "damage dealt". Thus, if the sultan stack has only 40 hp left, it can "take" only 40 points of damage (and doing 10 points of damage in return), even if the attacker deals 8492 points of damage. |
Ok. That explains it: "taken" not "dealt". Protection will be very important then for larger stacks. |
