AuthorQuestion about battles
Hi all. I just changed of faction with my multi, and I didn't get upgrade of wolves or globins. So, I probably can't do PvPs in this way, I'll be too weak.

But, I'd like to know if I and another player can battle without any upgrades of monsters. Is it allowed?

Ps:I didn't find any rule against it, but, I still dunno if it is legal or not.
It is forbidden. https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1915127
I would say that it's legal, according to the link that DragonEater posted. cbs said that it's legal if a player duel with a lower level player. I assume the reason is that the lower level doesn't have what the higher level player has. Extending that reasoning, you DON'T have what other players have (upgrades), so why can't your opponent voluntarily forgo their upgrades to make the battle even.

I just can't see why this would be against the rules if the battle is fair and both players do their best to win. Shouldn't we be encouraging more PvP combats, instead of imposing illogical rules to hinder them?

The player that got blocked in the other thread was blocked because his battles were really staged; one player intentionally lost. You can clearly see that if you view his battles.

Having said that, it would be very hard to make the battle fair with less than the full troop, unless you play against another player of the same faction (i.e. barb). That's because not all upgrades or same tiers are equal. Some factions get a much bigger power boost with certain tier upgrades than others. This is balanced out by the whole troop, but you can't hand pick a specific tier.
Wait.

The link you spoke about concerns playing with minimal troops settings.

Sworks is asking about playing with Upgrades (goblins vs hobs, riders Vs raiders).
There is nothing against playing with a non-upgraded unit.

Proof of that, the game allows you to step back to the previous unit whenever you want, after an upgrade.
In fact, in some cases, a non-upgraded unit can be tactically more advantageous (think bowmen and xbows: you may want to have volley available, even if the stack is weaker, to better open the way for your teammates).

I use barb too, and never upgraded to raiders because i find them utterly useless.
So i don't see the point of spending hard earned gold for that, the same as, as a wizard, i didn't bother buying gremlins engineers, and am pondering about modern golems.
And as a dwarf, I don't have all the possible upgrades either, like many other players that started the new faction. Nobody got fined or blocked for that, so far.
All you need to do is to fully recruit, and plan ahead the best tactic for a win.
So, I can battle without any upgrades, right?

And, is there a problem if both players have no upgrade monsters, but full recruit?
I don't see anything forbiding you to play without ups, as long as you go full recruits and do a real battle. Eventually find your allies beforehand to prevent them you are playing with this handicap (although i already won battles in this situation - just takes a little more skill and some luck).

Everybody understand that when switching factions it may take time to get enough gold for optional upgrades, and if you don't have it, you don't have it.

Getting alternative factions points is a key factor in game if you want to be able to stand future challenges, so i'd say go for it and good luck - but try to find a good team to play in, it will make the job easier.. ;)
Ok thanks a lot guyb, Geryon and Dragoneater. Very useful information from all.
