You see, wait works just like defence. It gives you a specified % of initiative every turn, I guess its 30% just like defence (not pretty sure if its 30 just take it as an example). Now suppose that you have a troop with total initiative of 10. Now if you wait, considering that it is 30% increase, the final ini of your troop will be 13 before the neutrals come in. Now suppose a neutral with 16 ini jumps in. Now, the neutral will get chance before you. So no matter how long u wait you chance will come only after the high ini neutral. This is why its imp to have good ini as during wait ini increases in percentages.
I frgot something. Now how do some other people do it? might be due to high ini. Suppose their original ini is lready 15, now the 30% ini increase will take thm above 16 an hence will have the chance before neutrals.

not true i have seen orcs getting turns before nightmare, uni etc. eventhough orcs have less ini
As I said it depends on how ini u hav before wait as wait works in %. Also think logically, a troop with 16 ini will obviously get chance before the one with 15
Waiting is actually not like defending. Wait does not increase your initiative, it just makes your chance come faster. https://www.lordswm.com/forum_messages.php?tid=1832909 read post 3.
It increases initiative by 50% (sorry for 30 in my second).
wow... i did not believe that i would see this question and answers. let me explain it:

you can consider a full turn as an initiative of 10 which is the heroes initiative. when ever you play(move and attack) or defend a turn passes by until you get your next turn. when you hit "Wait" you will get our turn in HALF(exact) the time of when you play. now the half does not mean if there are 4 creatures playing before your next turn you will get after the second but it depends on initiative.

let me give you an example and explain how you can play earlier than other players and creatures: take the masters of initiative as example(shrews).they have the highest ini so they will always play first. their ini is 16. so if their enemy is with an initiative of:
- <8: they will play twice before the creature
- >=18: they will play at the same time every turn or shrew plays after that(another creature with high ini increasing arts)
- >=12 and <16 in this case if your shrew waits he will have her turn 50% faster so he gets an additional 8 point in scale of her 16 ini. so she will have 2 turns to play before that creature.

the trick here is to check the initiative of the enemies first and trying to have at least a bit more than them.if you thins of all of it with numbers and percentage of difference of those numbers you will find it. for example if the enemy ini is A if you have an ini of equal or higher than A x(1 + 0.5) it means if you wait your first turn you will play before him... you can start the calculations but not mathematical to get tired. just look at the numbers and find out the percentage of difference. that will tell you all you need.
In addition:
example: if your enemy is having an ini of 8 and you have an ini of 20 it means you will play 2 times in the first turn of his attack and have 3 turns in the next turn of his attack.

always compare your ini with the enemy and make him the scale then you will know what wil happen. so if you enemy ini is 10 and yours is 11 it means after 9 turns your creature will play twice once.

P.S . keep in mind that moral also makes the turn come in half the time so it affects this system
