AuthorInterviews with the Lords of War and Money
How did you get interested in this game? What keeps you playing? How old are you? What are your hobbies?

These are just some basic questions of what can be asked of anyone, however, who would you all like to ask these questions to?

Here is how this will work.

First is write here on who you would like to interview.

Second, write a question for that person but please be appropriate.

Then hopefully they respond.
K, I'll start.

This one is aimed at the biggest dog of them all...Arctic.

How did you hear of this game, what is your story and why did you decide to take the position of the Herald for us?

Ok, that was a lot of questions trying to be covered as one.

I don't know if he remembers this or not but here is why I respect him.

Long ago when this was still a fresh new born game...

(I believe before it was a year old)

I opposed and questioned the "mods" of the game (mods being anyone with the authority to answer, ban or whatever else in the game in any forum (I know that depending on what forum there is that there are different names but mods will be my generic term)...

Now granted this was a very rare case of not being banned but I "raged against the machine" because I felt that the powers that be were VERY condescending towards noobs. Which no matter what is a HUGE no no!

It was due to him that I was not banned.

Not only that, he forbade any mod from banning anyone who posted on that thread for writing their complaints also.

At that time I had no idea who Arctic was.

I don't know if he remembers that or not due to the fact there are so many times he's had to deal with this but...I do.

Ok, that was alot of background history.

So Mr. Hulk Hogan of LOWAM, can you answer the 3 questions I posed at the start please and thank you :)

By the way me and old Arctic are fishing buddies, so watch your step. Haha, I'm lying, I've never met the dude and I suck at fishing:)
Lucid, there is already some structure and organization in this direction. HWM Daily has a section that deals with news for the LWM server. You may find more information here:
http://daily.heroeswm.ru/newscom.php

There are already a few interviews with members of this Realm, among which also with Arctic.

If this direction is one you are seriously interested to pursue, you may consider contacting the organizers of this daily section for the LWM Realm, and work together with them.

Good luck.
^No sarcasm or witty comment ? You okay,bro ?
for Loafoant:

haha..i was wondering the same

for Lucid-Naz:
i would also like to hear the answer..:P
Hey all. Now you, Lucid, are a daredevil to target me at once =) I'm not a public person, and so far I've given very few interviews. Your questions don't look big, but they actually hit the toughest point for me to answer. Fine, I shall answer those, I hope I do not sound too depressed.

How did you hear of this game
When I was teenager, I only played one computer game - Heroes of Might and Magic, different parts. Of course, sometimes I did check out some other things when they were appearing, but none ever grabbed me for more than 2 days.
So, later when I joined the online world I've entered a few heroes communities. The game was extremely popular in Rus-speaking countries, so I joined a few of those, too. A person from one of those communities, "Heroes Portal", found this game very quickly after it was launched, and he referred me here, too. His in-game nickname is Ice_Axe (He was in the first wave of moderators, and many HWM veterans still remember his good qualities. But he is long gone in a BOW block).

why did you decide to take the position of the Herald for us?
After I answer this, many will think I'm mad =)

Back in the day when there was no English interface at all, I was a Uni student and I was dating a very lovely girl who happened to love Heroes (we broke up years ago and she doesn't play anymore). I had some free time and I just wanted to make a surprise for her as she spoke little to no Russian, so I contacted the Administration with a few pre-made translations to English (the Help section), and offered to make a full English interface. I was offered a translator contract which I refused (remember, I was heart-driven? ;) ), and just did it on a wave of excitement (I actually took longer than I was counting on, should have been completed by April 1, 2008, but I was done with all the little things as late as April 27th, so we launched on May 1).

When the server was launched, I got this message from the Admins where they said they had created my character here, and would like me to take a little watch of the community, for the time someone else comes up to pick it up. So easily tricked... =P I agreed because I immediately grew fond of the little growing community, and I really started finding pleasure in communicating, managing, bringing and writing the news etc, I was full of enthusiasm. As they say, nothing is more constant than a temporary thing.

I'm still doing it, still managing the community. There is no more enthusiasm. Thing is, I just know that right now I'm the only one in the team who cares about .com community. If I drop it, even though we are now merged, you guys will be either abandoned, or, most likely, mistreated.
But on the other hand, the game is taking me serious amount of time which is not as easy to provide as it used to be. In fact, one day or another, I will have to leave. As soon as I even start planning some serious changes in my private life, I will have to use this time for something more productive than just a hobby that doesn't earn me anything except some delusive pleasure to be the one to manage a group of people who share one of my biggest youth interests.
And I don't know what happens then. I would love to read those Townhall answers as much as you do. But so far, every time I had to leave the game for a few months... well, you know what happened and how they call that.

Not only that, he forbade any mod from banning anyone who posted on that thread for writing their complaints also.
Yes, of course I remember the Polygon thread.
It was exactly one of those times when I was out of access for this game. No events were happening and people were so bored they started picking on each other, trying to find war in the forum as there was none in the game.
Something needed to be done, and I made that move. I still think that move was one of my most successful ones in the light of those community frictions.
After that thread was created, the two antagonistic groups of players reformed; players were finally united against another group - moderators.
I was watching that thread almost every other day, often tempted to login to comment, but every time I was just thinking, "It isn't the time yet, my lords still have things to let out".

In the end, things settled down quite well. But I need to mention a very important thing here: it was by far not as successful as the Military Clan Council project that put a final end to those frictions as it gathered people from all those antagonistic clans under one roof and they started doing something together, instead of just talking together as it was in the Polygon thread. The solution was very good and I'm very grateful to those who brought it to realization (I played no role there). It only proves that one man is as good as none =)

One more remark, some people still think it was very wrong to hold up the mods for public bashing. Those people need to know that when I recruited the first wave of moderators, I told them something like this: "You probably think you have just reached the top of the social ladder in this game and you're above anyone else now. Sorry to disappoint, but in my eyes you just got lower. You're now an instrument to me, so prepare to work for all the good sirs and ladies out there".
In .ru part, moderators are treated by their managers with much protectionism, they are often covered by them and favoured in different ways.
To me here, mods are my soldiers, and I will always throw them in the first line in any community conflict, for the good of the rest of the community.
Well, you already have an example above, so nothing more to add.
Thanks for the interesting response Arctic. That explains a lot of things I've been wanting to know. And thanks to Lucid too for asking those questions.
Wow. Super interesting story about how you got involved with the project. I had wondered about the origins of the English speaking server and that made it all make sense.
When I was teenager
i thought you were born old... :p

great that you'd give us insight on how you became .com's father (i don't mean it "star wars style" ehehe)
and...
...thanks for everything, Arctic :)
Evergreen memories on Arctic ! :D
But Arctic... Are you Single ? Or married ? O.o
ok, i take the second one :)

to Lord cepruyc (I've heard a lot about you, and know nothing!):

there's this:
How did you get interested in this game? What keeps you playing? How old are you? What are your hobbies?

and also:
What part did you play in the development of the .com community?
Why did you went away at some point?
Now that you're back (if you indeed are), what's your role?
What are your thoughts on how the .com community evolved over time?
I'm still doing it, still managing the community. There is no more enthusiasm. Thing is, I just know that right now I'm the only one in the team who cares about .com community. If I drop it, even though we are now merged, you guys will be either abandoned, or, most likely, mistreated.

Its so deep. :'|

We need someone to start slow clapping for him :')

Thanks Arctic!
