Does faction counter levels work in all the battles?

AuthorDoes faction counter levels work in all the battles?
Here is what I understand about the effect of faction levels (suppose in my battle as an elf against a tribal): I take less damage from the tribal but my attack does not do any additional damage to the tribal.

Now does this work in all the battles? What are the exceptions?
It works only in battles in which your enemies troops are controlled by an hero.
Do you mean ALL the battles in which my enemy troops are controlled by a hero?
Yes. Thief, few WG combats, GBs, Duels, survilurgs attacks and what else did I miss :-P
it not work on portal of time
Q.5.15: In what MG quests does the faction skill resistance apply?
A: In invaders, vanguard, army and brigands quests, but only knight faction skill resistance applies.

The damage reduction also works on select MG quests, as noted above.

it not work on portal of time

well, of course it will work if you have FSL in haven, inferno, sanctuary, necropolis, or stronghold.

but they are different faction than us, which are not playable so faction resist doesnt work.
for krabylos:
It won't.
Because "all talents and faction skill levels are not effective in PoT battles."
So even if you have FSL in them, they mean nothing.
Just out of curiosity, never understood what haven has to do with that knight like faction... did they mean "heaven" because they have seraphs and stuff?
ups sorry, I mean portal of time style battle in WG.
Most of the factions of this game are based on HOMM V, which was developed by a new company and publisher. they created a new mythology for the HOMM world:

The Humans of the Holy Griffin Empire are inspired and guided by angels. It's a feudal society driven by the rigorous edicts of the Dragon of Light.

The name, however, was first used in HOMM IV:

The Haven is the town type associated with Life in Heroes of Might and Magic IV. It's a typical "human" town, with mainly human units - and angels.

In earlier versions, the faction was called Knight castle and Castle.

Maybe it is based on "safe haven"?
for dariel:
Interesting, tell me about barbarian please.
portal factions are HOMM VI factions, not HOMM IV
Does a skill potion work in PoT WG battles?
