That is why it is best to err on the side of caution. There is no explicit answer for you. My recommendation is that you don't do it.
You are essentially gifting the gold to the player. You can put that in any other way I.e "returning the gold, repaying the gold" etc. but it's not compulsary to do these actions and therefore it could be considered a gift.
Again, the rules are complicated and interpreted in many different ways that can cause problems, so I support the cautious approach ;) | 3.11.1. You're awarded gold since it is a part of the system. Returning it would be considered as a gift which violates 3.13. | Sorry, but that would be more caution than what i would recommend. Honestly, it cannot even be called a risk because to impose a penalty or block on any character, you can expect that there was a reasonable degree of infringement, and at the least the violation itself would be specifiable. Discussing this right now we just seem to be complicating things. Surely, unfair blocks/penalties have been happening since long, but now you can always appeal in such cases.
On the other hand, looting is a feature of the thieves guild. Ambushing successfully gets you that reward, I consider it somewhat absurd to return it unless the other guy really begs for it. | although my heart wants to follow V_V's suggestion at #2 and partialy at #9, I will close this thread, answer being a NO.
I got exactly what I want at #7.. an official's take on the issue.. later on I can link this thread and show Corey's answer (*) as an evidence, why I'm not returning their stolen gold etc etc ;)
why I made this small thing an issue, why I realy WANT to refund SOME victims gold : because those players are very respectfull to other players (= my !) time. Once ambushed, they set their army and play very fast. I want to reward such good attitude. always did so with main. may even keep doing so tru main's purse as gift, for those caught by my multi. (much less frequency :p)
