Authorlevelling up
Hi guys,

I am currently level 13 and dont want to level up before completing the tournament at level 13. I have heard we wont level up if you are doing tournament, can someone explain this rule further for clarification?
You will receive Exp and FSP whenever you battle and that exp will just be added to your total exp.

The exp you require to level up which is shown in the bracket

» Combat level: 13 (14,464,210) +35,790

that will go into a negative figure till the tournament is completed.

Once the tournament is completed, you need to do either HG, MG or some random battle, gain some experience and then you'll level up
so, I can do other battles till the point before I will get required exp for next level right?
Yes but be careful because the exp left is less
Yes, if you do regular battles (such as WG) and it takes you over the threshold, then you'll level up.

I don't think you can level up from defences either though...
For Meshy - Then what about thief ambushes I get caught in, are they counted as a battle too ??
Anyways- this is what the rule says and it does not seem to make any exception:
"
The system will not let a participant get transferred to the next combat level after reaching the necessary amount of experience. This feature allows the player to finish the tournament of his or her current combat level. The experience will still accumulate. However, if the player takes part in any combat aside the arena, that combat will level the lord up regardless of the combat results.
"
IMO don't play anything else until you complete all your tournament battles.
Then what about thief ambushes I get caught in, are they counted as a battle too ??
If you get caught by a thief you will level up.
IMO don't play anything else until you complete all your tournament battles.

That's a proper way to be safe,

But I don't think that you'll level up,
So better do one thing, finish all your tournament battles, after that when you're in negative experience try a HG or MG battle, and whether you level up or not you can inform us in this forum.
Would be helpful for other in future. :)
When you pass the exp threshold during a tourny and get "-" exp intead of "+":

-You won't level up if you only play tourney battles
-You will level up if you play any non-tourney battles

I'm not sure what happens if you get ambushed in between. Especially if you force a 0 exp and 0 fsp result (by doing zero damage - and this is not against the rules).

When you eventually level up, the extra exp you acumulated is automatically added to your total.
I wasn't sure either if you need 1 exp to level up or just participate in a non tournament battle.

Here's a statement of Artic some years ago. I don't think this has changed yet. So avoid travelling.

Don't travel.
Well... I'm not convinced regarding a 0 exp and 0 fsp result.

Why? Because if you level up FSL by other means other than playing that faction (FSP gained from chests spring to mind), you won't level up FSL - you get the same "negative" value in FSP.

If you get ambushed (or do a Brigands quest), but make zero damage and get 0 exp, then you get 0 fsp and you don't level up just the same.

There's a possibility that what Arctic said about "regardless battle outcome" refers to winning/losing and not "regarless there's actual exp gain or not".

So I'd really like to have this confirmed or see it tested.
I'm not sure either. Arctic and help page seem to be clear. But I remember to that you have to earn at least 1 experience point.

I wouldn't take the risk if I were escutcheon. ;)
It could definitely be tested once the tournament is over :D
Thanks guys for all your help, I levelled up after the tourney doing a cg battle :)
