I struck dark witches with my shrews, and on their way back, they ran into invisible witch stack and attacked them. I know that if an unit runs into a stealthed unit, it stops and attacks it, but this shrew performed 2 attacks in one turn. So it begins its run by going up one square, then diagonally up. It must finish its return going down one square and diagonally. It just so happens that in this case, the witch was not in the way on the way up, but in the way of the diagonal on the way down.
As you mention, the ability says: If a unit runs into a stealthed unit, it stops and attacks it. Well in this case, it stopped and attacked it because the witch was in the way. The ability triggered as intended.
