Only true nature build unholy use ghouls. But it's not really a recomended build, and you need firewall to make it work, so it's not an option for you for now.
Infected zombies however are used in PvP more commonly. They aren't as tanky as they look but in numbers they can severely debuff while skelies shoot and vamp become much harder to kill. |

Build in which ghoul works are viable from lvl 17 onwards, so yes its not worth it.
On the same time, infected zombies aren't worth it as well; there may be some players using zombies inplace of appa though.
So unless you're not short on cash, then only build. |

| For a long time, I didn’t build farmer upgrade because, well, who use them? Then one day, with extra cash, I did, and whoa, I could recruit more wardens! I don’t know if upgrading zombies would have the same effect (I forgot to check before and after the upgrade), but if you do upgrade them, take note and let us know if you see any increase in recruitment. |
I disagree with everyone who tells you not to build castles for your faction LMAO!
Infected zombies are STRONG. Do not listen to players above. I use infected zombies in all my battles, especially PvP. You do not need a huge stack of it. I merely use 12 of them in place of 20+ skeleton bowmen which is insanely worth it.
I split them into 3 stacks of 4 and use them to take retal/block or just attack strong stacks to reduce their attack/defence by 4 points each. Infecting strike is OP. Ghouls also have a nice aura where you can debuff enemy troops by standing right next to them. Anyone who tells you otherwise probably wants to face you in CG and get a free win. |

Look at the strength of infected zombies. If they are useless, why do enemy shooters shoot them down first? :)

| Castle for your primary faction is never a waste. You will find uses for your upgraded units and whilst not absolutely essential infects/ghouls are very strong when used right. If nothing else using them will develop your understanding of your faction which is critical for pvp. |
upgrading troops is always worth it in the long run. The question is therefore not so much whether you should do it, it is whether you should do it now.
In that regard it is dependent on your goals.
Certainly you can compete happily without them and so could potentially save for things that may give a more palpable benefit.
For instance at some point most people end up saving for a thief invite. If you didn't upgrade them then you would get that quicker. You may want to try other factions and build castles.
As such it depends upon what you want to prioritise.
However, if you do decide to upgrade, unless you are desperate to use them, then wait till the next builder day comes along to save 10%. |
so i am not going to upgrade them for now, may be at a later levels :)
