how do I use dwarf rune?

I am lv3.
I built the rune magic school but can't find a way to use the rune

You probably didnt meet the condition for the rune. At least one troop in your stack needs to perish before you can use the crusade rune.

Thanks,I have used it once.
So, when a stack of any sizes of each type of unit died, another stack of that unit type can use the rune attack once, right? Where can I read further about this game mechanic?
